Maybe I have another bug, but the kernels mentioned in #4 and #5 do not behave
any better.
Whole machine hangs during the first minute after logon to KDE. With those two
kernels it's so hanged I can't switch terminal and so can't see the error
message.
Even SysRq doesn't work.

I have this issue on Gentoo, was googling and found this thread. It
does NOT happen with a USB keyboard. But I'm missing my good old Model
M so I want to keep trying. No idea how to fix it though. Could there

Just tried to install 10.04.2 LTS (32bit, desktop) from scratch in a newly
created virtual machine running on a VMware ESX server.
xserver kept crashing until I deleted file /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
Only then I was able to install via restarting gdm.
So this bug is still relevant and
I switched to virtualbox and there this issue is not bothering me
anymore.
Maybe this is a glitch in VMWare itself ???

I see massive improvement, i cannot reproduce in terminal or slashdot/firefox

That's not due to nouveau, but synaptics doing something funny because
of the multitouch work. Chase, could you have a look?

Importance:
Also makes a massive difference for me. I haven't seen any corruption.
Tested the usual triggers: gnome-terminal scrolling / curses, notify-osd
on top of video, slashdot.org.
I also can't reproduce Simon's corruption in unity.
