Same problem here. First, I thougt it's a bug in unity. After reading your
bug-report, I removed the proprietary driver and enabled 3D support for the
nouveau opensource driver and after that everything work fast and smoothly.

I don't know what leads to this, but my macbook pro 15" (5,1) will
suddenly start running its fans and top always shows syndaemon at 100%
CPU. strace shows its just spinning in a select call:

anyone experiencing the issue and/or still working on it, I thought I

I built the kernel 2.6.38.3 using Mark's config
Here's what it produces:
with KMS enabled
1) resumes from suspend OK
2) fb (framebuffer) is weird. The font looks nice and fine, however
no proper splash when booting
