After a recent system update gnome-settings-daemon crashes with segmentation
fault upon login to gnome shell (installed from ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3,
gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build4). The #68 comment hack makes it
even worse: the session hangs (nevertheless, it did the trick under
... or apparently not a dupe. I have the updated package installed
already (and have all along). And I see no error state collected in
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state.
I'm still getting segfaults a few times per day though. :( The only
theory I've got is that sawfish may be sending

I have reproduced the problem on Ubuntu Natty and LMDE with recent
kernels. I'd say this is a pretty big issue, since this is the main
thing holding me back from using linux as my main OS. Fullscreen full HD
video with tearing is unacceptable for users who spend any amount of
time on YouTube.

Guys, after installing compiz settings manager and removing vsync
checkbox, performance is ok for HD 4770. Ati takes care of vsync with
their Tear Free whatever so no vsync issues after removing that
checkbox. This is major problem for Ati owners.

Radeon, i915, Sandy Bridge, etc. This causes an nVidia chip instlled

I also had this problem with an x201s. The display on the laptop alone
was fine, but on attempting to plug in an external display, both
displays go black. I downgraded my linux kernel from 2.6.38-9 to
2.6.35-22-generic from the maverick repositories and this seems to have
fixed the problem.
