Tested with Oneiric image from July 5th on the Dell 2110. Upon connecting external display, the external goes black as in picture 2. The internal display gets a ghost copy of the top panel, about 2/3 of the way down the screen. from that point up until the actual top panel, everything is black.

@#25 Maximum performance is not an overclocked setting. I would expect overheating when overclocking. Not to say that Nvidia cards don't do that under normal speed, because the ones that don't do powermizer have for me in the past. However that only happens if you have insufficient cooling.
