driver to intel - see attached xorg.conf file (as default Ubuntu 11.04
AFAIK problem is because Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 doesn't use intel X driver on
Intel i845 (82845G) and i855 devices, but uses fbdev instead. Could you force
driver to intel by copying attached xorg.conf to /etc/X11/ folder and test if

Just wanted to add that Dave Airlie sent me a patch{0] in the
FreeDesktop Bug Tracker[1] for this same issue which fixed the problem
for me.
Would be great to have this patch included for the oneiric kernel if
possible, it would make Ubuntu work for people with HD6450 cards out of
the box.

I can confirm this on Firefox Aurora (Firefox 9) and Firefox 7. It was
also doing this previously so Firefox 6 and 8 are the same. The entire
site is screwed up by this. I'm using Kubuntu 11.04 with proprietary
nvidia drivers. Chrome works ok, no problem there.

Current oneiric seems pretty consistent: if the external monitor is
connected when the machine is turned on or comes back from suspend, it
works. If the machine is inserted in to the dock while powered on, and
then the external display is activated, it doesn't set the right mode
and it does not
