have upgraded the system to precise pangolin i386.
I can see nvidia-96 and nvidia-96-updates in the repositories of precise
pangolin but when i go to install them, i get the following error:

I got Compiz installed on my TOSHIBA Satellite C660D. xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have nouveau driver installed for a legacy driver NV25 [GeForce4 Ti
4600] on ubuntu 12.04.
The system loads up the nouveau driver but logs into unity 2d only. I
cannot get compiz working on it.

I have this sort of problem with 11.04 as well with Mint12 (KDE) after
installing anew. Suggestion sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe
psmouse doesn't help in my case. In my case I get repetively (and
always) rid of this problems with log off and then log on! It seems
that any stuff that is stopped
@Christopher, are you sure this is an fglrx issue? When I encountered
this issue on both my machines, one was using Nouveau and the other (my
laptop) Intel graphics.
At any rate, I just installed Abiword on my laptop's fresh Precise
install, and I can no longer reproduce the issue there.
