Something I just discovered that might help (or not) in discovering the
problem: before the update, dead keys didn't work on Emacs, but worked
everywhere else. After the change, dead keys aren't working everywhere
else, but started working on Emacs.

Yet another thing to try. The manufacturer has an EDID flasher posted
for this monitor on the product downloads page for the VA2012. I
couldn't find any documentation explaining what it is, but my guess it's
to fix exactly this sort of problem...
And yet another suggestion, this from Robert Hooker who says he had this
same monitor once long ago:

It sounds like you have Disable touchpad while typing checked in your
mouse and touchpad settings. That would explain why the scrolling
doesn't occur if when you type on the keyboard.

I've installed 12.04 and decided to try nouveau since I'm coding colord-kde
which requires XRandR 1.3 (NVIDIA proprietary only supports 1.2), on my wife's
laptop the nouveau driver worked fine which is a GT230M iirc, but
my GT240 failed, If I ssh and kill KDM I'm able to

After little pinning down what's going on, actually the bug I'm
experiencing is in the DGA (libxxf86dga1) library.
Scrolling in the browser works, through any game using DGA for input it
doesn't, then again I experimented with Warsow by adding mouse support
to read it directly from evdev and this
I got similar problems using single monitor configuration, just after upgraded
my ATI card driver to the latest AMD propietary driver (12.2). Compiz used
50-80% of my CPU.
Before I used AMD propietary driver (12.1) without experiencing this problem.
