Both my IdeaPad U310 and my wife's U260 (two different intel chipsets)
experience this randomly upon awakening from suspend.
I can confirm that switching to a VT and restarting lightdm gets me back
to the login. I will look into the compiz/metacity shuffle next time it
happens.

For those of you with Nvidia cards having this problem: if you feel like
giving it a try I solved it by doing two things, but I am not sure if
the combination of both gave me the solution or just the last one:
I first installed Michael Kuhn ppa and upgraded the system:
sudo apt-add-repository -y
I am also getting complete lockups, no mouse movement.
Fresh install of 12.04 64-bit with all updates.
Computer: HP DM1Z with AMD E-450 CPU and ATI graphics.
I have to say, after challenges with 11.04 and 11.10 I thought surely

Same here. My DIY-System (i5, Asus P8Z77V-Pro) freezes completely, no mouse, no
keys, last bits of audio keep repeating. There is nothing relevant in the logs.
Replacing the Xorg-intel driver with fbdev fixes the problem.
By the way, other distributions seem to have the same problem. I installed

Actually today when I was working on the second monitor, I keep getting
compiz crashes with the intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on
device message, triggered with Alt+tab switching... I don't know if
