I also get this message. I'm on 12.04 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s.
X usually crashes after suspending/waking up the notebook a couple of times .
I open the notebook, type in my password, and after a few seconds in
Gnome-Shell am thrown back into LightDM.

Same here. My Dell XPS 1430 has the same issue: ever since the upgrade
to Ubuntu 12.04 it frequently freezes completely, no mouse, no keys,
last bits of audio keep repeating.
Note that I don't have an Ivy bridge processor, just an Intel Core 2 Duo
CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz and GeForce 9400M

I had the same problem after some X server updates in Ubuntu 12.04. The
screen went black ( in fact in white color) after I reopened the screen
lid.
This is how I solved it. In synaptic, I can see the version of xserver-
xorg-core is 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6. I choose Force version and
downgrade it

I experience the same with 12.04 LTS PPC64 Nvidida FX5200.
unity 2d or booting with nouveau.noaccel=1 (defaults to 2D) bypasses the bug.

gbz, I've had no such luck in that area. It's very likely that you're
having a different (but similar) issue. White screen freezes are not
uncommon on those damnedable nvidia binary drivers.
