I'm also experiencing this bug since some months
I think that for my part it comes from compiz as explained in post#14
to solve the problem when i do have a general frezze, I do a :
1. CTRL+ALT+F1
2.Login as user.
3. sudo pkill compiz-decorator
4. pkill -9 compiz
5. CTRL+ALT+F7 to go
Renaud, you have other bug. Becouse in this bug you can't do anything
with your system, it's completely freeze.
Also, i have no freezes a few weeks.
Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with latest updates but with 3.2.0-31-generic kernel.
Actually I have no idea how can i get this.

Replaced KDM with LightDM to determine whether these crashes are X fault
or KDM. Seems it X, because today I've encountered a crash again. But
this time I haven't found anything in logs (grepped it for
segmentation fault closed unxpectedly — nothing).

I believe it's the same issue; in most cases the PC goes from running to just a
