Since it turned out that installing the fglrx package doesn't
automatically run 'aticonfig --initial', I've attached log files for
both when xorg.conf is not present and when it is generated by running
'aticonfig --initial', along with the generated xorg.conf file.

are installed on your system? This package is necessary for building
fglrx kernel module. And as I know, it is not installed by default on

Most likely, this bug is a duplicate of bug 1075937 because the PPA
version of the nvidia driver is not new enough to build against a kernel
= 3.7 (and you're running a 3.8 kernel). Get rid of that package/PPA
and install nvidia-experimental package. If that fixes you, please mark
