The netbook-launcher command seems to be specific to lucid, I can no
longer find it precise. I guess unity infrastructure has been reworked.
I do not think lucid or UNE will receive an update to fix this ticket.

Just some additional info that might help narrowing down the cause.
I see this same effect on a machine running Arch Linux.
On this machine I use urxvt on top of the i3 window manager. (So not
Gnome, KDE or Unity).
It happens when text gets scrolled in the terminal window.

On a fresh and updated install of Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (developpement

Optimus, I installed the nvidia proprietary driver with the jockey-kde
