As far as fixing the issue goes, it's very simple:
- if I do `/usr/bin/xfsettingsd --replace` (4.11.3), then I can easily
replicate the crash
- if I do `/usr/local/bin/xfsettingsd --replace` (GIT master with Sean's
updated patch), the I can no longer replicate the crash

Had tried nvidia-346 from xorg-edgers and it's the same thing... (no
desktop after login in my case; have tried nvidia-331 and
nvidia-331-updates). With nouveau drivers I get to the desktop (though I

...and if I remove nomodeset in GRUB (necessary for install and then
fixed in GRUB, I was unaware) then nouveau driver hangs awfullly!
I can then install nvidia-331 and get to use intel on-board after sudo
prime-select intel
But still I can't get a desktop with nvidia driver
