Did you install using 14.04.2 media? Then you're using the driver stack
from 14.10. You could try using 'Option AccelMethod uxa' in
xorg.conf (man intel), or update to vivid lts stack in trusty-proposed.

I have a similar issue with my laptop with AMD graphics running ubuntu
gnome 15.04, which I originally reported as #1447356. I have kernels
3.19.0-15 and 3.19.0-22 and both of them give a black screen after the
grub screen.

I upgraded system to kernel 3.16.0-43.58~14.04.1 (amd64) today. X now
crashes with the error nouveau - gpu lockup whenever I run Google

I suspect that would not be as portable a solution to other platforms
for the affected apps like Chrome and Nautilus.
Either way, a bug should usually try to focus on the problem definition
and less on describing possible solutions.

I went through more nonsense trying to update the bios to version 3.60
but I finally succeeded and reinstalled Ubuntu 14.04. Updating bios 3.50

hoping that it may make some difference. It did not. With version 13 of
Ubuntu my

I might also add that I replaced my keyboard with a new one with no

* Merge from Debian unstable. (LP: #1471185)

* pixman-validate.patch: Dropped, not upstream and
we can just discuss these on #debian-x (OFTC) and sync from there, no
need for tracker bugs :)
