The problem is that you have "nomodeset" on your kernel command line. This might have been put there if you have previously experimented with Nvidia cards... To fix the problem just: 1. Edit /etc/default/grub and delete the word "nomodeset". 2. Run: sudo update-initramfs 3. Reboot. **
