Same problem with ASUS S406 (no graphic card, CPU i5-8250U)
The most awkward thing is sometimes it is working, sometimes it's not. I
can't figure out why. When not working, even a restart does not re-
enable it but xrandr can enable mirroring laptop display.
Any advice?

I have this exact issue on the latest update of 18.04. It only started
after a Kernel update.
Has anyone found a fix for this outside of the modprobe?

Manager". I have found that uninstalling my Nvidia drivers by going into
recovery mode fixes the issue. Booting with the earlier kernel doesn't
fix the issue.
