If I switch on my laptop connected to a dock station with an external
monitor, lid closed, gdm login is using the laptop screen instead of the
external one.

When I try to switch the screen configuration using Fn + [F8], sometimes
it doesn't work. If a text entry in an application is selected (for
example a gnome-terminal window is active), a 'p' letter is inserted
instead.

I guess this happened because I've closed/repoened the laptop lid.

I've updated my kernel to 2.6.34, from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/.
So far, it seems it fixed this issue.

If I recall correctly, it used to work for a while during lucid
development. But not anymore.
I've tried to do "apport-collect 269302", but it failed saying "no

But after a while, suddenly, performances are degraded severely. It's
particularly obvious on window content scrolling (a firefox page for
example), or when playing with the nautilus selection rectangle on the
desktop (the one you get when you click on the desktop, then move the

I've fixed this issue by changing a parameter in compiz configuration.
Using ccsm, the parameter is "Lighting" in the "Display settings" tab of
"General compiz options".
If I unset this boolean parameter, transitions work fine.

After a while, my screen begins to be corrupted, showing bright pixels.
These pixels seems to be "attached" to the graphical object on which
they appear. For example, the bright pixels on the windows title bar
move when I move the window.

I think I have the same issue. Suspend/resume using the panel menu works fine,
but suspend fails if I close the lid.
I get mainly a black screen when I reopen the lid, and sometime I get the "low
resolution" dialog.

There's no broken screen state in this issue. The screen goes mostly
black, except for the panel and the workspace switching OSD, only
during the workspace transition. After the transisition, everything
works fine.

The bug is still there using current karmic. I've seen on a fedora 11
box there's an access to the screen configuration dialog from gdm. Could
it be a workaround for this issue ?
On a side note, it breaks badly the quality of the visual boot
