shown when removing the boot hard disk from the laptop and starting the
laptop without boot hard disk shows an orange background. Thus this

nouveau does not recognize my Samsung Syncmaster

Nouveau does recognize only the screen resolutions 1024 x 768 and 800
x 600 and this as laptop.

As requested I have created a follow-up bug Bug #473409 with kms activated.
Please note that besides the resolutions above, the xrandr_cycle test was fine
for all resolutions.
Maybe the failing resolutions have something to do with not configured kms
settigs.
Thus for that purpose I'd keep
With KMS parameter nouveau.modeset=1 some issues during startup occur:
1. During sartup when showing the ubuntu logo, the resolution with kms is for a
few seconds lower than with kms.
2. Before increasing the resolution, the logo is destroyed for about 5 seconds,

Not sure, if this is relevant here. I had a long time ago similar
trouble with this monitor Samsung Syncmaster 226bw when using nv driver
with debian lenny. Seems the monitor had problems with its edid.
