I'd like to confirm that Jace's solution (#127) worked for me using a
Lenovo T440s on an Ultra Dock with two displays connected on VGA and
HDMI. I upgraded to 14.10, updated to the 3.17.4 kernel, and rebooted.

I apologize for the long wait but, that version of ubuntu is pretty
unstable on my system. I have not gotten it to boot properly since I

to start the graphics driver from there it crashes and says no display

I simply used the manufacturer bios update tool through windows on the
laptop then booted into ubuntu once the update was complete. The
problem persists in exactly the same manner as before. The output for
those commands are 217 and 09/07/2012 respectively.

I've been getting this same issue starting about a week ago (~Oct. 1
2011) on Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity. I can't remember it occurring any
other time except when I have Gnome Terminal maximized (which has often
been the case recently), and it seems to happen about every few hours.

I solved this problem by using the xorg-edgers ppa. Now xorg hovers
around 150MB, which is way better than 500MB. The problem is that this

I got tired of nouveau freezing my desktop (at least I assume that's
what it was, maybe it's just compiz itself) and downgraded libcairo2 to

on a similar note, i have a similar problem in 10.10 with image
artifacting (image scroll lag?), mostly when viewing in webpages.
Im also using the nvidia package ofcourse. If you would like me to

I can confirm the bug re-occurs on Lucid. After building and applying
Tony's patch above, I was able to enable dual-screen once again.

I haven't experienced this problem in 9.10. I can't upgrade my systems
to 10.04 yet -- work currently requires 9.10. This can probably be be
marked invalid -- I think the bug is more or less the same as 55739.
