the bug is not about Saucy, but about currently supported releases.

one and a half years ago, people have already reported that this bug

In the log, compiz dies, as expected, immediately after this line:
rb-mt: 0x(nil)
Bryce and Mihai, I've pushed a new 8.0 branch [1] [2] that should fix the bug.
(The patch comes from nobled on bug 46303). Could you confirm the fix?

Not happening in Ubuntu 11.04. The busy pointer shows up when Zoom Area
Lock is active, both with Hide original mouse pointer checked and
unchecked. Also, pointer position is accurate.

Same problem for me after upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10. It used to work
fine in 10.04. I use the 32 bit version. Disabling Compiz also fixes the
problem for me. Here's my GPU info:
$ lspci -v | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express
I commented too soon. The problem occurs for me even when Compiz is not
running.
