Two weeks ago I switched from Unity to Gnome Classic (with Metacity)
because this got too annoying for me, and for now I didn't encounter the
video bug. But, more testing is needed.

As I'm using catalyst drivers and they aren't included in the image, I
guess, is there a way to install them and run them solely from the live
environment? And since this is my work machine also, I don't think that
I would stray from LTS for now.

In the last month, almost after each update, the system would behave
differently. Sometimes I could go through several sleep/resume cycles
without hitting the bug, sometimes it occurs every time after resume
from sleep (which is the current situation).

I found a fix for network and sound card. There have been several kernel
updates in the past week or two, but all things combined gave nothing to
initial problem.
After resume from suspend, videos often show just black, with sound
playing (using xv output). gl output gives picture but it flickers
Sorry, I forgot to include that, here is the output:

Hmm, besides We don’t recommend users to update the BIOS if their
system is already running normally (which I have read before
upgrading), the official site also says Please only flash newer
versions of BIOS in the future. Also, version of BIOS that I had isn't
available for download. Now what?
Besides fancier icons in BIOS, the only visible change is that wired
network card isn't working after wake-up. I tried a couple of times,
same thing (ifconfig lists only lo after wake-up). Also, now, trying
logout and login after that locks up the system (at least I can

After 5 days of uptime, X is using 70% of 8GB RAM that I have in my
machine (according to htop). I tried restarting, but X always just keeps
using more and more RAM. The machine is on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: xorg
I'm having the same problem on 14.04 64bit, new fglrx (14.12) and wine
1.6/1.7. Trying to install wine after fglrx requires fglrx removal, and
vice versa.

Mark, I had the same error messages, they are generated because there
are two id's that match joystick's name. I don't know which one of the
two is actually for controlling the joystick events, so I set properties
for both. The errors are for second id.
If you are bothered with the messages, you
As I said, gnome shell never worked well with AMD cards. Changing
resolution in 11.10 works fine in Unity 3D. In 12.04, changing
resolution works fine in Unity 2D, but not in Unity 3D. So, maybe it is
related to Unity in some way.

If it's fixed by not using xserver-xorg-input-joystick, how do you use
your gamepad? I had to install that in order to use mine.

I also had a problem with gamepad automatically emulating a mouse. I
tried using the method with numbers described above, but the numbers
were changing after reboot. As a solution, here is the script I use to
disable mouse emulation after logon (just put it in the
