I can confirm this is perfectly fine in Karmic alpha 2, is there any
chance the drivers can be backported from Karmic to Jaunty for now?

We may give a shot to building -intel 2.8.0 for Jaunty once it's
released, but a lot of the fixes have been stuff in the kernel which we
will

This version includes a major reworking of the acceleration
architecture, which resolves a huge number of issues. We do not know
whether it resolves the issue you reported.
