We've got 2.6.31.2 now in Karmic, so I think that should include this patch and
all should be well.
If not, feel free to re-open with whatever additional details you find.

This problem is solved on my test gentoo install using the vanilla
2.6.31-rc2 kernel.

I just compiled i915 with the patch, updated initramfs and rebooted.
X started and I could login with KMS enabled..

Hi. I believe I have this bug as well on a macbook 2,1.
I have a fresh install of 9.04 and followed the instructions for
upgrading to KMS here:

(except that I did not edit /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf or update
initramfs as the kernel
