The problem persists in 10.10 with either Openoffice or Libreoffice.
This is with a Nvidia 9600.

I can also confirm it, I have NVIDIA 9600gt, using latest NVIDIA drivers
by jockey in Kubuntu 10.04.

I can also confirm this bug and might add that closing and reopening the
OpenOffice document makes the performance go back to normal. I've been
experiencing this since Hardy or Intrepid (at least since the end of
2008).

I confirm the bug with the most recent nvidia driver
195.30-0ubuntu1~karmic~nvidiavdpauppa5 from the ppa repository and OOO
version 3.2
Everything is OK if I swithch the desktop effects off.
