I have the same problem on my HP ToucheSmart tm2 Notebook with Core2Duo
(64bit). The system uses switchable graphic cards (Intel ATI). Because
the ATI didn't work, I turned off the ATI by this solution:

I also have laptop Asus N61jv, and have the same problem : When I try to switch
in a different tty with ctrl+alt+f[1-6] the system freeze...
my laptop has an I3-processor. Already a solution for this ?
