Hum, ok. So you can boot without issues with usplash disabled.
Then it's a problem in plymouth and not in xorg.
Please open a terminal and execute the following command:
apport-collect 595352
** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = plymouth (Ubuntu)

Please add as separate attachments the following files:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/gdm
If you can't login on that machine to get the files, perhaps you could
log in remotely with ssh or use a Live CD to access the hard drive and
get the files.
