Kristopher Phillips, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
zog,
I don't operate NVidia or use Xinerama. I simply statically assign the
screens, as described in my XOrg.conf file.

I received the same error with Ubuntu 10.10 and everything updated to
the lastest versions today. I found that disabling Xinerama stopped the
problem from occurring. My backtrace was almost identical to that above
on 11/23/2010.
My NVidia drivers are: 260.19.06 running on 64-bit system.

zog,
Do you operate a MultiSeatX environment on your NVidia graphics
adapters?

No. This is limited to xorg-server and does not appear to be related to
a specific application.

I think this is related to the application expecting a single monitor
display and crashing when you have Xinerama turned on. Do you have a
dual display?

XOrg Segmentation Fault with XServer when running MultiSeatX
Another problem is when users logout. Sometimes the segmentation fault
happens when the users logout as well, since the video reinitializes.

As a workaround to anyone dealing with this:
Change the value in KDMRC that allows for retrying to start kdm several times,
and this will work around the bug until a fix is made. Now, this only affects
me once in a great while. Still bothersome though and would like an update on
what's going
This bug report is nearly a month old with NO update from any developer.
Please update the bug report with some insightful, as this is feeling
like there is no hope for this bug.

Wanted to see if the latest built drivers from XOrg edgers would make
any difference. Similar, but slightly different results. Here are the
log results for the third display when it failed today:

Another backtrace. Some sort of update on this would be nice.
Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X2 (xorg_backtrace+0x28) [0x4a3258]

3: /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 (0x7f63ded79000+0x42c65)
Not sure if this helps at all, either, but I get repeating messages in
the kern.log that state this. There are hundreds every minute.
BCCSStudentAdmin kernel: [ 3632.465451] [drm:r600_audio_bits_per_sample]
*ERROR* Unknown bits per sample 0xf using 16 instead.
Also, the daemon.log says this:
Here is a backtrace

Another backtrace that occurred. I have had about 10 or 15 of these
today on the 40 different quad-seat setup machines. Everything above
the backtrace is pretty much the same.
