Alex Mayorga, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

git clone git://0x04.net/pgtest
cd pgtest
make
make would fail until I installed libpciaccess-dev like this:
sudo aptitude install libpciaccess-dev
Finally managed to get the requeste peek

Should I keep gathering this or is the information already suficient?

Hi Alex,
I can take care of forwarding the bug itself, if you'd be able to follow
up with the upstream developers.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org//show_bug.cgi?id=33357
Please subscribe yourself to the bug (add yourself to the CC list).
They may ask for more info or request you test stuff.

From the upstream discussion on a referenced bug, it sounds like one way to
diagnose this is to compile http://0x04.net/cgit/index.cgi/pgtest then get the
system back into its frozen state, and then get the output of ./peek
0x40 0x1 after the lockup.

Bryce,
Are you going to pursue this upstream yourself or should I? If the
later, how?

Something funny is that after rebooting I can see the locked screen for a split
second before gdm kicks in.

Thanks for the extra info Alex. Don't worry about the /sys files -
nouveau doesn't actually place anything useful in those files (the
-intel driver puts stuff there in case of gpu, which is probably why it
was recommended to collect it).
The file that we need is the output of 'dmesg' from while

Bryce,
I've yet to figure out steps to reproduce it, but it seems completely random.
It looked up again today, I ssh into it and ran apport-collect on it FWIW.

New findings:
- The lock up remains after a suspend/resume cycle
- If I run unity the right click menus don't show, the lock up appears after
some time and some time after the lock up there's video corruption (attached),
mouse cursor still shows and moves even after the corruption
- When

From the log it looks like you booted at 1pm, booted again at 1:24pm
(was that due to a freeze?) and then used sysrq commands at 5pm (did it
freeze then too?)
Unfortunately, no error messages are shown in that log. Not sure of the
next steps for how to troubleshoot nouveau lockups... hopefully

It has happened two or three times at least.
Unfortunately I still can't reliably reproduce it (happens randomly)

Is there anything in your /var/log/kern.log or /var/log/dmesg.* from
about when the lock up last occurred, that provides an error message?

Has this happened more than this one time?
If so, can you identify steps that seem to reproduce it reliably?
The backtrace seems to suggest possibly some relation to the synaptics
touchpad.
