[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718767] Re: [i945gme] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x00007272)

The upstream bug report feels this particular issue is fixed by linux commit b5b5ac2dec49ea5ae033434efa90863aa5cdfb2c (which seems to have resolved a slew of reported bugs). If you still experience freezes, please file a new bug report using apport (since that will attach fresh info). ** Changed

Seems this kernel patch didn't fix the problem, I created an automated bug report at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg- video-intel/+bug/728472 ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification

Thanks Liam, I've fed this information upstream. It appears likely that all these i915/i945 lockup bugs may be related to a common root cause, potentially fixed by this patch: commit 5e78330126e23e009502b21d1efdabd68ab91397 Author: Daniel Vetter daniel.vet...@ffwll.ch Date: Sun Nov 14 22:32:36

Please test with the following kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ In this newer kernel code is the fix to enlarge unfenced alignments that I mentioned in the previous comment, which appears to be a problem specific to i915/i945. If that kernel makes this

Here's the requested dmesg output. The only difference made by updates is the mouse pointer now moves, though everything else is frozen. I've noticed that leaving the machine alone means it won't crash; I've mostly been using it for Web surfing, this is the activity I've been doing every time

Here is a kernel with a DEBUG patch added (note this is not a fix, just a mechanism to confirm the root cause). Could you affected please test out these kernels (they should work on Maverick too) and report back here. The kernels are at the URL below:
