Since this was my first get together with Linux i do not

It almost always happens for me during start up when the purple
background with the Ubuntu logo and the dots underneath it. I can get
into a virtual terminal by pressing CTRL-ALT-F1. I have it set to
automatically login as a user.
If I log in with Ubuntu Classic it seems to fix this.

I 'm having a similar issue with a Radeon 4650.
I've tried the -preposed kernel 2.6.38-9.43 and on most boots still end
up stuck at the Ubuntu boot splash screen. Does this kernel have the
