Public bug reported: When gnome-terminal starts scrolling continuosly (i.e. tailing a log), the Xorg cpu usage bumps up to 100% and my machine becomes deadly slow (even though it's a 8 cores westmere). This problem was visible on 10.10 but with 11.04 it became much more evident.
Please note that I use Xorg with Xinerama and nvidia dual head (one screen on landscape mode and another logical screen made of 2 physical screens in portrait mode linked together by nvidia dual head) Thanks, Vincenzo ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.48-generic 2.6.38.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-11-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.1: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/1' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 270.41.06 Mon Apr 18 14:53:56 PDT 2011 GCC version: gcc version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu4) Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] CompositorRunning: None Date: Thu Aug 4 10:38:51 2011 DistUpgraded: Log time: 2011-05-03 08:49:34.193807 DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia-current, 270.41.06, 2.6.38-11-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-current, 270.41.06, 2.6.38-10-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-9-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-11-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-10-generic, x86_64: installed GraphicsCard: nVidia Corporation G71GL [Quadro FX 3500] [10de:029d] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:032b] nVidia Corporation G71GL [Quadro FX 3500] [10de:029d] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:032b] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) JockeyStatus: xorg:nvidia_173 - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use) xorg:nvidia_current - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, Not in use) MachineType: Dell Inc.
