is OK
when i test the maverick kernel (2.6.34-2) the bug is present. Alway with intel
drivers of lucid.
The problem is in a change of the ubuntu version kernel.

After installed the driver from nvidia website it worked, but then I installed
the kernel updates of course it didn't worked. Then I uninstalled the preveious
installed nvidia driver and reinstalled it from the ubuntu repo

I happen to have the same exact problem with a radeon XPRESS 200M 5955, also on
a presario V2000 notebook.
I tried compiling the latest xserver-xorg-ati from git, but it didn't solve the
issue...
Apparently this is KMS-related, I haven't tried disabling it yet.

I resolved this by downloading the new driver from ATI. It was released
only one day before the Lucid release date so I hadn't picked it up. The
version I tried above was 10.3, the new version is 10.4 and ran with no
problems. You can download it from

patches applied in maverick which are not in -rc7. Some of those affect

Using nouveau from xorg-edgers and 2.6.34 kernel fixed the issue for me,
even with no blacklisting. It would be quite problematic for me to
downgrade, but I think it will be easier to backport a patch rather than
writing a new one.

Ok just to add to that I also have an old ati graphics chipset on my
wifes laptop too (different to my sons) and the same fix worked for that
too , this bug usually occurs for me when checking mail on

I tested this bug on Lucid again:
I changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf entries back to
Option SWcursor false # [bool]
Option HWcursor true # [bool]
again. The bug doesn't occur anymore. Login worked always at the first
attempt since then.
