[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976383] [NEW] Periodic lockups or crashes

2012-04-08 Thread Matthew General
Public bug reported:

I've been using 12.04 beta since beta 1 and this problem has existed.

Essentially what happens is (normally) I'll be scrolling through a
webpage and one of 3 things will happen. Either my current session
exits, locks up entirely, or just locks up the UI allowing the mouse to
still move. This happens on any desktop environment, whether it is
Ubuntu 2D, Gnome classic, Gnome shell, Ubuntu unity, etc. It seems worse
with gnome shell, where it almost always completely locks up. It seems
most stable under gnome classic.

Last time it locked up I sshed into the machine to see if I could figure
out what happened. Xorg was at 100% CPU and not responding besides the
mouse. Video playback froze, UI non responsive.

This seems to be an architecture related problem and others seem to be
having the same problem. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11783386

I've been checking dmesg and syslogs to see if I could figure out what might be
causing the lockups/crashes. dmesg returned a few bits of information that may
be helpful
init: lightdm main process (1536) terminated with status 1
eclipse[4532]: segfault at 18 ip 7f558e70d30e sp 7fffd0fcb8f0 error in
libgdk-x11-2.0.so..2400.10[7f558e69b000+ad000]
init: failsafe-x main process (6661) terminated with status 1

I had killed the main xorg process, causing the last messaged in dmesg.

Hopefully this will be helpful for someone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966448] Re: Dash (no blur) renders black stripes while scrolling

2012-04-08 Thread Sam_
Unduped from bug 941066.
Reason:
- the issue hasn't be seen here before 5.8
- disagree with 'Desired resolution'

It is not desired to have a black aka tinted dash.
Expected is an option to disable the mourning dress.

IIRC there was the ability of dash to blur the background colour which
disappeared, maybe it could be considered as a compromise option if
transparency isn't desired by design.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 974900] Re: Menus split across multi monitors

2012-04-08 Thread KarlRelton
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise ubuntu

** Description changed:

Have two monitors arranged side by side. Some applications when used
maximised in the right hand monitor, display their menus split across
  the two monitors.

  Not all applications do this.

gnome-terminal (with panel menus disabled) - is OK
  libreoffice - is BAD

I don't know if this bug is unique to libreoffice or is in something
  like compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 942736] Re: Border movement ignored on Bamboo Pen and Touch

2012-04-08 Thread Phill
I have rebuilt the kernel, identical code except for the patch states
above. It appears to correct the problem. This patch is already in the
12.04 git repository. This improvement is actually in the kernel, not
the X wacom driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976198] [NEW] touchpad does not work after suspend

2012-04-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When returning after suspend (closing the lid and returning a few hours
later on my MacBook Air) the touchpad does not work. It seems like the
touchpad driver thinks there's one finger constantly on the touchpad
since sliding with a finger on it makes it want to scroll (I've enabled
two finger scroll in settings).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973163] Re: Xorg doesn't detect correct resolution of VGA Panasonic TV

2012-04-08 Thread Stefano
I just tried with two different TVs, via VGA: LG 37LC2R and LG 22LD320
and it works perfectly. So it looks like it's a only-Panasonic related
issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813809] Re: Hybrid Graphics with Intel+fglrx is not supported

2012-04-08 Thread carlosv
Hi, again. Just to add that according to the forum:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450 it is working for some
the hybrid ATI/Intel with the fglrx. Seems that on the next Ubuntu 12.04
it is a great chance that this may work.

@Milos_SD
On this foroum:
http://phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?69880-real-fglrx-12-3-released/page3
on the comment #25, seems a possible solution for the Intel direct rendering.
Seems to be a problem with the path to the folder for the Intel driver is
incorrect by default. Seems to modify the path solves the problem.

I eagerly looking forward to the new Ubuntu and try the new fglrx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2012-04-08 Thread Hawk
Can anyone post information on what I can do to help track this problem
down?

It doesn't lock up, it just freezes for a random amount of time, then
continues on like nothing ever happened. No log entries, nothing. It
didn't do this before, this is recent! Nothing has changed on the
server. I suspect something that came in with a software update.
Seems to only do it when I am telnet'ed in working on the command line.
Very strange how it will hang... ... ... then carry on like nothing
ever happened!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976198] Re: touchpad does not work after suspend

2012-04-08 Thread Iain Lane
Sorry, I failed. I tried evtest using

/dev/input/event5:Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad

which seems like the only plausible option to me.

I need someone to tell me how to debug this. The laptop is a Macbook Pro
7.1.
