Updates on my tests using the ubuntu-x-swat/intel-graphics-updates ppa:
1) After some usage, kwin freezes after login. The only way I was able to solve
this is to delete the ~/.kde/ folder, which resets all of the KDE settings.
2) There's a lot of GPU usage when everything is idle. There's a

Marwan's solution worked for me.
I'm using 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pcie_aspm=force acpi=off'
in my /etc/default/grub file.
and I've added 'echo 0 /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog' to my /etc/rc.local file.

The problem must be xfce4-wm, as other applications do take touches.
However, I can't seem to touch the content of a website in firefox
either. After clicking once with the mouse I am able to click anywhere

I have removed xorg-x11-drv-intel thinking it would fall back to

No. I guess you are using xorg-x11-drv-modesetting as that is the modern

As you can see from this log, I heavily typed and at the same time moved
the mouse via touchpad until the lost-sync event was trigged.
Immedeately after the event was trigged I switched to terminal using
ALT-L+TAB and killed xev with STRG+C.

Erm, disregard all that, like N hours later I discovered that the
display's power button and reconnecting the DP cable weren't enough--
finally unplugged the whole display from wall power, in desperation, and
it came back online just fine. Must've been a false correlation with the
upgrade, or just
Worse with a really old kernel: 3.2.48-030248-generic
With that kernel, it only took 5 minutes of light web browsing for the
system to totally bog down.
