[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1376988] Re: ATI/AMD drivers are not working
Seems you are having the same problem as I meet in Ubuntu 14.10 beta. I tried the latest driver from AMD website, latest in Ubuntu repo, none of them works. Drivers can be installed just fine, xorg.conf generated, but system can't boot. I can boot with radeon driver, or with fglrx- core installed. It would be great if anyone can explain the complete set of steps of how to install the packages needed to test this in 14.04. I have found no repo with debs to test and the ones I found are not compatible with current xorg and such. I thought I was fairly experienced with this, but I have not been able to figure it out. Vincent, what you could do is to take a look at this instruction: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/node/358 Based on this you could: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.16.0-19-generic # this will install the patched kernel for trusty sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel# this should get you the xorg-edgers intel driver with all the dependencies needed Now you can reboot and verify with xrandr (like in the linked instruction) whether your displays are available or not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]
I am currently stuck analyzing this issue. The following considerations refer to commit dbd76eb58bd9d7a55de753daa5572ef24867d924. After adding lots of debug output to displays.c, I noticed a potential issue in static GPtrArray* xfce_displays_helper_list_outputs (XfceDisplaysHelper*) which contains the line of if (output_info-connection != RR_Connected) When powering off a screen and powering it on again, the value of output_info-connection is always 1 (=RR_Disconnected). Hence, the rest of the surrounding loop's iteration is skipped, no modes are detected, etc. According to my current understanding (which might be completely erroneous) of how the code works, this is wrong and it could hint to the actual cause of the issue - which I'm still unable to identify. Further observations: xfce_displays_helper_list_outputs is called twice in displays.c - once by xfce_displays_helper_init(...) and once by xfce_displays_helper_reload(...). In the former case, (output_info-connection != RR_Connected) is false for one of my outputs, thus modes are getting detected, etc. In the latter, it is not. Can anybody assess whether or not I am on the right track? Any help debugging this would still be greatly appreciated. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105 Title: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1308105/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
