[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1376988] Re: ATI/AMD drivers are not working

2014-10-08 Thread David Chen
Seems you are having the same problem as I meet in Ubuntu 14.10 beta. I
tried the latest driver from AMD website, latest in Ubuntu repo, none of
them works. Drivers can be installed just fine, xorg.conf generated,
but system can't boot. I can boot with radeon driver, or with fglrx-
core installed. System boots fine with 14.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1378353] Re: monitor brightness switched to lowest level after logout

2014-10-08 Thread b3nmore
On a closer look, pressing the brightness up or down key makes a
difference: With the up key brightness is set to its highest level, with
the down key its set to the highest level - 1.

Btw. the newest driver 2:2.99.916+git20141006.ec2b9ac8-0ubuntu0sarvatt
shows the same behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-10-08 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
I have made an attempt to backport this feature to utopic and to trusty (via
linux-lts-utopic package).
The problem is I don't have a hardware setup (I have a dp1.2-enabled laptop but
lack any dp monitors and hubs).
If anyone would like to test this, the packages are available in
ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst.

I will appreciate any feedback.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-10-08 Thread Vincent Gerris
It would be great if anyone can explain the complete set of steps of how to
install the packages needed to test this in 14.04.
I have found no repo with debs to test and the ones I found are not compatible
with current xorg and such.
I thought I was fairly experienced with this, but I have not been able to
figure it out.
I compiled and installed a 3.14 kernel which should have some patches, and
tried the intel installer with it to no avail.
Again, I am happy to test, but I could really help some instructions and help
from the people here that seem to be able to install it.
Happy to provide feedback

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]

2014-10-08 Thread Alexander E. Patrakov
Retested with the latest git. The patch indeed breaks constraining the
mouse on the right side when keystone correction is active. However, the
whole keystone correction feature is already so horribly broken that
I'd just propose to drop it.

The breakage is that, if you click something, the click will not go into
a point that you intended to click. I.e. you can't even undo the damage
using the xkeystone GUI.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-10-08 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Vincent, what you could do is to take a look at this instruction:
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/node/358

Based on this you could:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.16.0-19-generic # this will install the
patched kernel for trusty
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel# this should get you
the xorg-edgers intel driver with all the dependencies needed

Now you can reboot and verify with xrandr (like in the linked
instruction) whether your displays are available or not.

Please make sure you have ppa-purge available (sudo apt-get install ppa-purge)
so you will be able to revert it later if anything goes wrong with:
sudo ppa-purge ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2014-10-08 Thread Jate Sujjavanich
I am using the Yocto project to build a linux image containing xfce. I
have been having the same problem with a failure to detect when
disconnecting and reconnecting an LCD monitor.

I reverted commit dbd76eb58bd9d7a55de753daa5572ef24867d924, and I can
confirm that I can now disconnect the monitor at will with detection.

I'll have to use this workaround for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1369222] Re: xorg random crash

2014-10-08 Thread Carlo Cavalieri D'Oro
After the update of Google Chrome to version 38.0.2125.101, everytime I
watch a video on youtube, after few time, the screen becomes black as
freezed and after other seconds ubuntu goes in crash completly then I
must reboot the pc manually.

I also tried to disable the Acceleration hardware in chrome://flags, but
the problem is always the same.

I guess it could be a problem of Google Chrome rather than of Xorg which
is quite stable.

I hope that someone can fix this bug soon. With the previous version of
Chrome, I didn't have this problem.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367870] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 system with Radeon HD 6330M hangs regularly, especially when using Google Chrome

2014-10-08 Thread Lucas Partridge
@Pieroxy - Sorry to hear that because I've had no system hangs since I
switched to the proprietary AMD drivers 5 days ago. Maybe you could buy
a newer graphics card; they don't cost that much if a low-powered one is
sufficient for your needs. (Unless you were referring to your
motherboard...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]

2014-10-08 Thread Voidcastr
I am currently stuck analyzing this issue. The following considerations
refer to commit dbd76eb58bd9d7a55de753daa5572ef24867d924.

After adding lots of debug output to displays.c, I noticed a potential issue in

static GPtrArray* xfce_displays_helper_list_outputs
(XfceDisplaysHelper*)

which contains the line of

if (output_info-connection != RR_Connected)

When powering off a screen and powering it on again, the value of
output_info-connection is always 1 (=RR_Disconnected). Hence, the rest of the
surrounding loop's iteration is skipped, no modes are detected, etc.

According to my current understanding (which might be completely
erroneous) of how the code works, this is wrong and it could hint to the
actual cause of the issue - which I'm still unable to identify.

Further observations:

xfce_displays_helper_list_outputs is called twice in displays.c - once
by xfce_displays_helper_init(...) and once by
xfce_displays_helper_reload(...). In the former case,
(output_info-connection != RR_Connected) is false for one of my
outputs, thus modes are getting detected, etc. In the latter, it is not.

Can anybody assess whether or not I am on the right track?

Any help debugging this would still be greatly appreciated. :)

being execptedly faster. My machine was also upgraded from 13.10. I
don't know if anything older than that was installed.

A simpler workaround: pressing Fn-Home/Fn-End (screen brightness control
