Laptop Display Port -> Display Port to VGA convert -> KVM switch ->

And there's no blurriness. So it's definitely something specific to
using the VGA output.

I don't think it's the ABI issue that I brought up with pitti. The ABI issue
would have only allowed the old package to be installed.
To be honest, I'm not really sure about what's going on in this report.
On the one hand the provided information suggests that 8.840 was built
and installed
I tested with the unity daily ppa and i did not have compiz on boot and
was dropped to classic desktop.Manually typing compiz --replace in
terminal made unity appear but i also had the gnome panel at the bottom.
ALT TAB also seemed very sluggish.

$ apt-get --purge remove ia32-libs
Then logged out and logged back in. I was still able to recreate the
problem.
Note, the firefox content is sitting inside a gnome-terminal, you can
see the console's flashing cursor above the ubuntu logo.

Lee, can you confirm that adding the "nopat" kernel option as Jose
indicated in comment #8 makes the error not occur?

I've missed some information which might be relevant:
- I'm using a dual display setup
- I can restart Xorg with kill -9 PID but not with kill, kill -2, kill -14 or
kill -15
- Xorg "only" uses about 90% CPU time, 10% are used by an other process which
name I will report as soon as xorg hangs aga
Well, I think for more log data next step would be to look up firefox
debugging procedures and gather a backtrace (using gdb or other
debugger) for flashplugin.

you should be able to now manually install -fglrx and then install a PPA
version of unity which work together.
Can someone do this install and confirm whether or not this bug still
exists with that?

This is a bug particular to the installation scripts to amd64 which
hopefully will be fixed post-beta1. For now, you'll have to install
manually or wait until post-beta1. See:

8.840 was just added to natty. As per the last comment that should
resolve this bug. Reopen if not.

I have installed many packages by now, but just find this bug and
installed also the linux-backports-modules-input-maverick-generic-pae
package too.
The problem is, I don't get this working even now the kernel recognizes
my pad and doesn't throw any errors anymore.

Sorry, installs from the AMD site are not supported in the Ubuntu
launchpad tracker.
Also, the ABI for that version is not correct for the ABI in natty so
that version of the driver simply won't work here.

Final result, got the ubuntu logo with running dots, then the screen
goes to suspend. Aticonfig has placed a new xorg.conf, the systems can
boot to failsafe mode with lower graphics. Don't know what xorg mean
with missing fglrx, it is not the kernel module
