This does look a lot like some bad interaction between
i915/radeon(/vesafb?). Although we don't seem to have a full dmesg of a
-7 kernel it seems like it's not vesafb-based.
It would be useful to have logs - both of good and bad boots - with the
“drm.debug=0x0e” kernel argument added to the boot

firefox 4 32bit version too, specially while playing flash video and with

We had a fix go in for gpu lockup bugs recently which may explain why
you haven't seen the lockups lately. The IPEHR: 0x0211 looks like a
very commonly reported kernel bug (actually some people are still
reporting it, so it's not clear that it's fully fixed for everyone yet.)

The apport hook crash is bug 749809 which should now be fixed.
The X hang is probably one of our various gpu lockup bugs. Probably
easiest to re-report it when it next recurs. Meanwhile I'll close this
bug report out since we don't have the necessary gpu state captured.

I don't have an option in gdm for a guest session. When I logged in to
a test account with little history, I get similar behaviour: it did
actually come up at first with only the internal monitor working.
Through the monitor control panel I could see the external monitor. It
thought it was in sid

I don't know if it's connected to the drm debug setting, but my mouse
now seems really jerky and unresponsive. I have to click several times
to make it respond. I did install other updates before rebooting so it
may be caused by something else.

I don't suppose a guest mode login works?
Also, could you set the drm.debug=0x04 kernel parameter (either from the
command line, or via /sys/modules/drm/parameters/debug) and reproduce, then
attach dmesg and Xorg.0.log to the bug?
