[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854388] Re: oneiric release live CD video corruption on nvidia GeForce 6150SE

2011-10-14 Thread warjowuch
In my case, no desktop is rendered. Apps do start, but I don't see
anythin in the space between the launcher and the topbar but the dash.
Started apps don't show up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874819] [NEW] Xorg doesn't dectect 1600x1200 resolution for VGA-1

2011-10-14 Thread Erik B. Andersen
Public bug reported:

Xorg didn't detect that my screen could do 1600x1200. I have to set it
each time I log in with "xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1600x1200" and then use
the display configuration tool to use the larger resolution.

(Hopefully apport gives you the info you need to know. I don't know what
else you need to know, but I'm willing to get more information if you
need it).

Craig: We have some successful testing with the QX410, but it appears
that there may be more than one variant of this model. Please open a new
bug for your issue by running 'ubuntu-bug linux' in a terminal. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 860050] Re: LightDM comes back to greeter after login in and "nvidia" logo

2011-10-14 Thread forevertheuni
Can someone close this. I've found it. It was related to /etc/ld.so.conf
I had a usr/bin/env LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32/nvidia-current/ in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/90preserve_ld_library_path and that was the problem
I removed the line I had added in the past and now it works.

I am running 11.10 right now with the default nouveau drivers. Unity
works (11.10 doesn't need 3D apparently) . Everything stable. I don't
need the nvidia proprietary drivers anymore. Yipp!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872275] Re: Mouse click stop working.. (Xorg freeze ?)

2011-10-14 Thread sheamuso
I have the same problem on a Dell 5150 dual monitor which I use at work,
have to hard reset the machine at least once a day since Natty, I
thought I'd give it till 11.10 to see if the problem was fixed. Nope.
The windows users love it every time i have to reset the machine or
service gdm restart

Now today I've upgraded my Aspire 5750 with intel i3-2310 to 11.10 and
just had to do my first hard reset of the machine. Same problem on a
laptop.

I always have Eclipse and chrome open, don't know if these applications
have anything to do with it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781384] Re: active/inactive window decorations are wrong, do not update (only fglrx)

2011-10-14 Thread David Raid
Great, so now we're stuck with Unity 2D.

I'm shocked at the loss of Emerald in the repos. I realize it is not
actively maintained anymore, but show me another window decorator that
has the same capabilities! I was using it to work around this problem in
Natty and before Natty because nothing else allows anti-aliased rounded
windows.

don't have .xstartup fileI purged lightdm and gdm and installed

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2011-10-14 Thread Jurgen Lambrecht
Bonjour,

gfxpayload=text"

Succes,
Jürgen

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] [NEW] elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap

2011-10-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have an ETPS/2 Elantech touchpad in my Asus Eeepc and since installing
oneiric, 3 finger taps always registers as whatever TapButton1 is set to
in synclient. The touchpad would appear to use the version 2 protocol,
since it has 6 bytes per packet.

I reported this issue against linux instead of xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics because booting into the natty kernel (2.6.38-11) in oneiric
fixes the issue and 3 finger taps work correctly.

As further testing, I built a kernel from linus's git (so it doesn't
have the elantech version 3 patches included with the latest oneiric
kernels), and 3 finger tap still didn't work, so my guess it is a
problem with one of the changes to include the new kernel multi-touch
code. I don't know if this means there is a bug in this new code, or
some issue with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and the new code.

I reverted the multi-touch changes in drivers/input/mouse/elantech.{c,h}
(back to the version in 2.6.38, still need to figure out exactly where
the changes were introduced), rebuilt just the psmouse module and 3
finger tap works correctly again, so if it is a kernel problem, it would
appear to be localized to just that module.

I will continue to investigate, any assistance is appreciated.

Setting the delay and rate improved this problem. Thanks.

But this does not just happen in X. If you switch to a terminal (ctrl-
alt-F2) the issue remains and makes it almost impossible to type in your
password.

2011-10-14 Thread Ihorko
Please commit fix for this bug as soon as possible. Because I have to login
almost in 'blind' mode.
Installation was always with the lowest brightness.
I've managed to install xbacklight for increasing brightness after login. But
I'll appreciate if someone writes how to fix it at login screen

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874421] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2011-10-14 Thread Jon Smirl
Public bug reported:

Enabling the ATI proprietary driver on this system results in a system
that hangs at boot. I had to use recovery mode to remove the fglrx
packages and switch back to mesa libgl.

I suspect this is some sort of install problem aournd KMS fighting with
the ATI drivers. It doesn't appear to me as if the ATI drivers got
started properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874361] [NEW] Oneiric introduces severe flickering when adjusting brightness

2011-10-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

A Samsung X125 subnotebook. Upgraded from Natty last night. First noticed this
when pulling the AC power, brightness is reduced, as usual, but the brightness
setting slides up and down like crazy.
After a while I also see this when adjusting brightness with the Fn + arrow
keys.
My "solution" has been to force it all the way down or up, depending on my
needs, by using the Fn + arrow keys. There is no specific amount of keypresses
that finally makes the flickering stop and brightness to settle on either max
or min brightness.
Have never experienced this bug before, so I'm assuming this is a regression.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 829086] Re: Artifacts in 3D with Sandy Bridge

2011-10-14 Thread Jonas Jelten
I have exactly the same issue on my core i5-2520M with hd 3000 sandy
bridge graphics.

These artifacts are very annoying and only occur at the edges of
transparent textures, like you will see on the screenchot.

Same thing occurs in Osmos, but only edges of all textures are visible.

Next thing: when i use the minecraft internal screenshot feature, the
screenshot captures the texture error, but for the next ~10 seconds the
graphics are COMPLETELY normal as they should be, but after short time the
sky-colored artifacts shine through again.

2011-10-14 Thread David Raid
I had this problem (the rainbow bar) with 11.8, when I installed 11.9
from the ATI website, it solved the bar problem but created a new issue.
Now, whenever I run Skype, the notification bar becomes unstable. The
Activities window is also unstable. Gnome Shell 3.2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573312] Re: Wrong resolution in GDM when using external monitor connected to laptop - Intel chipset

2011-10-14 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Thanks David, I've filed bug #874241 although I believe it's the same
issue (same driver).

Please don't close *this* bug as I'll be testing 10.04 LTS 64 bit which
I consider going back to.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874241] [NEW] Wrong resolution in GDM when using external monitor connected to laptop [8086:0116]

2011-10-14 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

When booting with an external monitor attache, the external monitor shows a
stretched-out display, which the laptop monitor shows two black bars on each
side of a lesser-resolution GDM display. This problem persists after logging in
and is illustrated by these pictures:
GDM display:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/8041/IMG_20110920_091338.jpg

In-session display:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/80418884/IMG_20110920_091318.jpg

It's rather common to boot with the screen connected, so the use case
for this really is problematic as the Ubuntu splash doesn't look right
when a workstation is started like this. I happen to be in an
environment where everyone runs Windows and cosmetic details like this
really undermine confidence in Ubuntu.

This was also tested with a 11.10 nightly 3 weeks ago. I have to use the
monitors utility every-time the system is rebooted to adjust
resolutions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874237] [NEW] Emulate3Buttons option does not work anymore to enable emulation of a middle button

2011-10-14 Thread Susumu Tanimura
Public bug reported:

In Oneiric, Emulate3Buttons option is nullified even if setting Emulate3Buttons
as true in xorg.conf; however, in Natty, it works with such xorg.conf. The
newer evdev driver may be doubtful for this nullification. If not, a
nullification against emulation of middle button was added to somewhere in the
new Oneiric.
My input device is Kensington Orbit Trackball with Scroll Ring.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559189] Re: [RV410] Screen gets unreadable

2011-10-14 Thread Tomek Bury
I've tried both approaches, radeon.conf and kernel parameter but no
luck. I did notice change in the amount of stretch though. In my case
agpmode=4 was "only" twice as wide as it should be. I've got ATI
Technologies Inc R520GL [FireGL V7200].

I've briefly checked Ubuntu 11.10 but the driver crashed when I tried to
switch the monitors from mirror mode to side-by-side setting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines

2011-10-14 Thread Kat Amsterdam
My second monitor showed a big white and blue stripe down the middle and
after a reboot a dithered screen with every other scan line blacked out.

The shocker of this incident is Wont Fix!!! Unbelievably unprofessional.
The screen is the most important as it's your interface with the
computer.

See attachment for what is happening.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 834529] Re: nvidia-settings X display configuration window doesn't work on nvida-280.13

2011-10-14 Thread Nigel Charman
I had this problem after upgrading to 11.10. Resolved by updating the
driver from 173 to "version current" as per
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1400792.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 857615] Re: ~/.xmodmaprc is not used

2011-10-14 Thread Vincent Ladeuil
Issuing 'xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc' works around the issue but it strongly
hints that running automatically at start-up time has been lost since
natty.

Renaming ~/.xmodmaprc to ~/.Xmodmap (capital X) was enough to fix the
issue for me.
