I have 3 users - one with sudo priviledges and 2 ordinary. When ordinary user
logs out the black screen is shown - no greeter, just nothing. Doing sudo stop
lightdm; sudo start lightdm doesn't help - the same black screen.

Despite setting the LC_ALL or LANG variable to C apport-collect does not
work. You were right about the fact my locale is french but I'm not
sure that issue is related to 492290 (though I think it's definetly
related to non-english locale). I can do my share of python programming

My board has 4 USB 3.0 ports on the back and 4 USB 2.0 ports on the
back. On the front there are 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0. On all USB 3.0

I manage to get apport working (filed a bug under #1030483 about that, I
also describe the workaround I used).
I can try to reinstall fglrx to reproduce the problem and run apport
again if necessary.

The monitor is now at the proper resolution at startup, and I don't have

Since a week now after latest upgrade ubuntu 12.04 also always crashes

(openDML file) from another large file (TS or mkv)
i.e. for example
read a 6 GB MKV file over the network and create a local or networked large
openDML
christophevr may onto something. At the time of freezing (before I
switched to fedora) I was noticing that idle IO was jumping to 100%. At
the same time my disk was quiet meaning it wasn't disk IO.

On my laptop (Lenovo X61s) the kernel provided in comment #59 did not
make a difference. X still intermittently failed to resume with the page
flip error in the log. I noticed that there had been a number of BIOS
updates for my machine including one with a new Intel Video BIOS in
version 2.18
60C is not problematic for this GPU. You should only start worrying at about
85-90C. There is no need for a workaround. Anyway, the low power profile will
not be used as the default because it limits performance (and it doesn't work
on some mobile chips).
Anyone tried updating to latest intel driver? Precise ships 2.17.0 and
2.20.1 is available.

Karan Batra's workaround didn't work for me (VMWare Player 4.0.4 and
new install of Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit). What did was using the Xconf
settings editor (Aplication Menu-Settings-Settings editor), setting
the resolution by hand and then using Settings Display (the newly
created resolution appears at

Amit Rana, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

This is the state of Linux at the moment. Complete hard-lockups on
multiple computers/cpus completely ignored.
