[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
I need to do more cross testing to be certain but this evening I was testing Xubuntu Precise i386 (20120801.1) and I don't see this. So maybe it's actually a 'gnome-screensaver' bug I'm guessing it's not limited to only 'xserver-xorg-video-intel' ATM but I really must do more studying. It is worth asking though if anyone has seen this on any other flavor of Ubuntu such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu, etc. I may try converting an Ubuntu install to 'xscreensaver' and see what happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
Those of us effected definitely need to share some notes. I'm using a simple 2-port KVM switch with 2 sets of hardware: Intel Atom CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics VIA C7 CPU @ 1500MHz VIA CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] Only the Intel set is effected in Ubuntu Precise and Quantal, but it works OK with either Xubuntu or Lubuntu Precise. It also works OK with Ubuntu Oneiric. The old P4M800 is not effected at all but it may be helpful to note that when I open Displays in the Intel set it displays HSD 19, whereas when I open Displays in the VIA set it displays Laptop. Naturally it's not a laptop and the actual monitor is an 18.5 HannsG widescreen. But I'd think that Ubuntu Precise, Lubuntu Precise, and Xubuntu Precise all share the same Xorg packages, but certainly Ubuntu uses 'gnome- screensaver' whereas Lubuntu and Xubuntu use 'xscreensaver' --- I think! I may try downgrading 'gnome-screensaver' in a test install of Ubuntu Precise to see what happens, not that I recommend it! Doing so may blow things up badly :^( I'd very much like to see this fixed in 12.04.1, or soon after ;^) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032275] [NEW] Multitouch screens on Lenovo X230 tablets do not work
Public bug reported: I just purchased a brand new Lenovo X230 tablet computer with a multi-touch screen. I was aware that the multitouch function did not yet work in Ubuntu. The screen showed up fine until this morning, when an update caused all to turn black. I have tried re-booting, running in safe mode, and re-installing the system. So far, nothing works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032299] [NEW] REGRESSION: Display does not wake after suspend on E6500
Public bug reported: In all Ubuntu versions from 11.04 to 12.04, suspend/resume worked fine on my Dell E6500 (modulo other less serious bugs and some slowdowns in the initial 11.10 version). However, as of around 2 months ago, the display no longer comes on when I resume. Note: I cannot say for sure that this is an X or NVIDIA bug and not a kernel bug. I have no information on which update exactly broke it. Also note: This seems to have happened at the same time as an intermittent problem where waking the display from sleep/lock causes it (sometimes, not always) to be deathly slow and basically unusable. I was originally using the x-updates PPA, because it fixed some other problems a while back, but I've switched back to the mainline nvidia- current, and the behavior has not changed at all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032344] [NEW] [SECURITY EXPLOIT] NVIDIA Linux Driver Hack Gives You Root Access?
Public bug reported: Apparently there is a security vulnerability with the current Nvidia Drivers that gives the attacker ROOT access? Attack vunlerability description: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.security.full-disclosure/86747 Sample attack code: http://cache.gmane.org//gmane/comp/security/full- disclosure/86747-001.bin Excerpt from Phoronix article: Link: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTE1MTk David Airlie published this NVIDIA hack today to a mailing list (the exploit is attached there as a single C file). Airlie isn't the original author of this hack but rather the code was passed onto him by an anonymous user(s). The code was forwarded to NVIDIA Corp more than one month ago, but the official NVIDIA Linux proprietary driver developers have yet to act on the vulnerability. As a result, it was decided to release this to the public. Now maybe NVIDIA will take care of it since this 760 lines of C code can provide root access to a system running the NVIDIA binary blob. First up I didn't write this but I have executed it and it did work here, I was given this anonymously, it has been sent to nvidia over a month ago with no reply or advisory and the original author wishes to remain anonymous but would like to have the exploit published at this time, so I said I'd post it for them. It basically abuses the fact that the /dev/nvidia0 device accept changes to the VGA window and moves the window around until it can read/write to somewhere useful in physical RAM, then it just does an priv escalation by writing directly to kernel memory. Questions: 1. Which Nvidia Proprietary driver versions does this affect? 2. Should we update to a specific version to avoid this? 3. Are Nvidia 295.49 x86_64 or i386 drivers safe? 4. Is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 3.2.0-27-generic #43-Ubuntu immune from this? 5. Can you go upstream and contact Nvidia about this and get a fix issued? ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: verification-needed ** Tags added: security ** Tags removed: security ** Tags added: verification-needed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1032344 Title: [SECURITY EXPLOIT] NVIDIA Linux Driver Hack Gives You Root Access? Looks like this problem is infecting OS X too. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Hello, As far as the desktop freezing I had it as well; its not with new hardware only as my old notebook is like 5 to 6 years old I think - can't remember its that old. Asus ZJ96s, 2.16 Core2Duo, 2 Gigs of Ram, and ATI Technologies Inc M56P [Radeon Mobility X1600] Graphics. On this book the last couple LTS's has been solid except 12.04 64Bit; frequent freezes a couple times a day mostly with graphics intensive stuff, but always with able to access to the console, and I have to restart everything. Mostly with flash loaded in a browser or even an e-reader scrolling pages. Resources were not depleted by any means though. I tried various kernals up to 3.4, 2D, but no difference; I can only use the open vid driver. It left such a bad taste I went back to 10.04 and won't consider 12.04 again for this book, or any other computer till Its absolutely necessary - hopefully they will have things straitened out or its 10.04 to the death.
