[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1333676] [NEW] Screen disappear and show chunks from memory

2014-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Don't know what's happening and what is responsible. I've installed
Xubuntu 14.04 32bit. I'm working on 4 desktops (2 of them have Chromium
with few Thunar and gedit and the other 2 have full screen emacs) and
sometime when I do something in Chronium everything disappear and some
part of the screen show current desktop and some show youtube video I
was watching in the morning.

I have ATI Radeon based laptop, default installation not properitary
drivers (when I search for them I got message that it didn't found any).

I read that my video card is supported by default drivers. lspci show:

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250]

For me it look like corrupted video memory that show different data
(saved when I watch youtube). Maybe it's drivers fault. I'm able to fix
the issue for a while when I click show desktop icon. Don't know what's
triggering this, sometime it look like everything is working fine.

Before 14.04 I had 13.04 64bit version and everything was working fine,
didn't have enough space to upgrade. But back then I had ATI catalysis
drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1281562] Re: Xorg problem (apport gave no details, sorry)

2014-06-29 Thread Ion Cebotari
I have a similar problem with Intel drivers on Dell Inspiron N5110. At startup,
I get the error that you can see in the attached file. After the system is
loaded, manually doing sudo service lightdm start works and X runs normally.
I am not sure if my problem is compatible with the posted bug, but if I can
help with tracebacks of X server, please tell me how to do it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]

2014-06-29 Thread Harald Judt
I too can confirm that scaling doesn't work with radeon.

On a laptop with intel driver, the following works fine, except the mouse
pointer is confined to the mode area, but I believe that is a known xorg-server
bug:
xrandr --fb 1920x1080 --output eDP1 --mode 1600x900 --scale-from 1920x1080

The same command, adapted to the radeon output device doesn't work. Same
software configuration (xorg-1.15.99.903, libdrm-git, mesa-git, xf86
-video-ati-git, various kernel versions (at the moment 3.15.2)). Screen
rotation does work, though.

xrandr --fb 1920x1080 --output eDP1 --mode 1600x900 --scale-from 1920x1080

The same command, adapted to the radeon output device doesn't work. Same
software configuration (xorg-1.15.99.903, libdrm-git, mesa-git, xf86
-video-ati-git, various kernel versions (at the moment 3.15.2)). Screen
rotation does work, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]

2014-06-29 Thread Harald Judt
The patch from attachment #94929 solves the issues with constraining the
mouse pointer, so everything works fine on intel. I will file a separate
bug for the radeon driver.

Hello,

I tried to follow dalcde's guide/script, but without a success.
Probably the packages changed since then. I am on a freshly installed
Ubuntu 14.04. When trying to apply the patches, I get the following

I have tried the original git clone and also the apt-get source

Please, would you advice me what should I do in order to apply those

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314787] Re: Memory leak

2014-06-29 Thread RonW
I have the same problem since I upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 on my
TOSHIBA S50D. AMD A10 4 core processor and a RADEON HD 8500 dual graphis
card. With only the system monitor running in a 24 hour period Xorg
consumes 7GB of pgysical memory and 4 GB of swap space.

Another symptom, is that on the systm monitor it shows the 4 cores, but
they appear to working on the the same task, amost like they were
acting as a single core processor. I initially saw this same behaviour
when I install 13.04. The resilution was to install the AMD driver,
however, when I attempt to install the AMD driver the installation
process complains that there is an existing fglrx and to remove it. Once
I remove the fglrx package I boot into LOW GRAPHICS MODE. Again, if I
user the terminal in low graphics mode and try to complie the AMD
driver, the process trys to create a fglrx package and the installation
process complains that the is an existing fglrx installed package.

Under Additional Drivers, I get the memory leak whether I use the Xorg
driver, or the fglrx-updates or the fglrx option. I also do not see any
of the four cores operating independently.

I would appreciate suggestion, because I am running dry.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1335682] [NEW] dual monitor display issues nouveau and xfce

2014-06-29 Thread tbrookw...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

I right now am trying xfce as I have an old nvidia card. I have a
geforce 5200fx. This card has issues with any advanced grapics handling
at all. The newest nvidia drivers dont work for it. I have tried to load
the drivers, and they crash me out to the black screen with the x icon.
I tried to set the xorg.conf file for my second monitor, and for no
apparent reason it ignores the settings I have entered. I tried to find
monitor.conf, and lightdm monitor.conf and neither exist. I tried a new
front end that was a little easier on my machine to see if it would
load. For no apparent reason the machine refuses to acknowledge that I
have a second monitor, and I want to ass a virtual resolution so that it
can be used. Nouveau docs give no steps, and the only thing I get in
aranbdr, is a refrence to VGA-1 and TV1. Which is odd because my card
does not have a T.V. out. It does have a DVI out which is shows as
disabled. At this point the fact that not only will x not recognize my
second monitor, but that it shows a tv output leaves me to assume that
there is a bug with X not being able to detect my second monitor, and
also not allowing me to make any manual changes to the xconfig file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328898] Re: VMware guest video broken by the 3.2.0.64 kernel update

2014-06-29 Thread rojer
regression is caused by a this patch applied with the 3.2.0.58 -
3.2.0.59 update which happened between -64 and -65 (LP#1319885):

drm/vmwgfx: correct fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length

rolling back just that one patch fixes the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1335680] Re: fglrx 2:8.970-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2014-06-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards

2014-06-29 Thread ariel cornejo
Minor heads-up:
Those using Christopher's PPA need to either hold the relevant package
versions, or tweak the APT policy:

$ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/townsend-compiz
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-townsend-compiz-nvidia-refresh-test
Pin-Priority: 600

Otherwise, the numerically-higher version of compiz in the Ubuntu repo
will replace the patched package.
