[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412682] [NEW] xterm controls are missing

2015-01-20 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

This includes the menubar and the application context menu. They should
be there according to http://www.davidsimmons.com/soft/xtermhacks/. Due
to the fact that they are missing it is impossible to copy and paste
which makes it impossible to use the application.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-20 Thread Logan Fleur
Gameplay just seems slowed down, both by fps, and the game clock, perhaps
that's just poor coding though. Are you playing it with Desktop Compositing
disabled, and is it only rendered on the CPU? Those will very negatively
affect performance.

 Title:
   Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
Using Gnome Ubuntu 14.10, Dell XPS 13, intel 915 Graphics

After upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10 there are a lot of places where
the graphics are working much slower than they were before:

   - Gnome Shell Interface is very sluggish, visible chops (redrawing)
   when pressing the [Super] key.

   - Selecting text in Gedit takes a full second pr. line

Experiences some subjective improvement when I booted kernel 3.13.0-37
instead of 3.16.0-23, but that may be my imagination as the problem
   persists.

I've searched google, forums, found a couple of relevant links that
point to the issue being the Intel drivers.

   http://askubuntu.com/questions/53962...E2%86%92-14-10
   http://www.webupd8.org/2014/10/ubunt...ent-1652086424

But the drivers currently in 14.10 should be newer than those supplied
by Intel to 14.04 so that doesn't make sense to me. As one Intel
   developer wrote:

I would like to point out that since what we do is bring more ecent
versions of the software to the target distributions than they ship
with, a 14.04 targeted installer is unlikely to bring much to a 14.10
installation, which most likely has the same or more recent versions
   already anyway.

There's nothing remaining in the xtermhacks page which will be applied to the
upstream source.
The features alluded to in this report do not exist on that page.

most users are familiar with: Selecting the cut, copy or paste menu items

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412730] [NEW] DELL U2415M monitor detection issues

2015-01-20 Thread Michiel Janssens
Public bug reported:

My Laptop HP Elitebook 8740w has two external screens connected.
1 DELL U2412M connected to vga connector
1 DELL U2415M connected to Displayport.

I worked for about a year with a single external display, just U2412M on
the displayport without the issue I decribe.

The first issue:
When booting up and with screens attatched and active, the 2415 boots in
1024x768 resolution, the 2412 boots at the same moment in 1920x1200 as it
should.
At the point where the login screen appears the 2415 goes in power save mode,
most of the time.
The 2412 displays just fine at the moment.
After logging in, turning the 2415 off and on, sometimes helps the get the
screen active (out of power save).
When it gets active, the resoltion is 1024x768, not 1920x1200.
In unity-control-center in display settings the 2415 is displayed as Unknown
Display and the maximum resolution I can select is 1024x768.

Second issue:
After a laptop suspend the 2415 doenst alway become active again, the 2412
always.
Turning off an on the 2415 multiple time mostly helps to get the screen active.

Current partial workaround:
xorg.conf with monitor section for 1920x1200 as in attatchment.
This doesn't solve booting in 1024x768, but solves the resolution after logging
in.
unity-control-center still lists Unknown Screen

Another strange behavior:
when executing xrandr command, most of the time the 2415 stays in 1024, but
after a number of executions the screen swithes to 1920x1200. At that moment
xrandr outputs all possible resolutions as it should.
When executing xrandr another time the 2415 switches back to 1024x768

Already tried kernel v3.18.3-vivid, no change.
Also tried Utopic live cd, no change.
Tried Windows 8.1, no issues with both screens. (however my main OS is Ubuntu
trusty, so..., just for testing)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412766] [NEW] Duplicated mouse cursor on top of every window

2015-01-20 Thread Helder
Public bug reported:

For some reason a second mouse cursor appeared in the center of the
screen and shows over all the screens that are currently open.

I'm using Ubuntu Studio 14.10, and this usually happens after
hibernation (and some times after locking the screen).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388612]

2015-01-20 Thread Kenxeth
Hi all. I believe this should be fixed with Mesa master - specifically,
this commit:

commit c4fd0c9052dd391d6f2e9bb8e6da209dfc7ef35b
Author: Kenneth Graunke kenn...@whitecape.org
Date: Sat Jan 17 23:21:15 2015 -0800

i965: Work around mysterious Gen4 GPU hangs with minimal state
changes.

If you're able to test with Mesa master, I'd appreciate any reports of
whether this solved the problem for you. It seems to have helped for
me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412682] Re: xterm controls are missing

2015-01-20 Thread Thomas Dickey
See the selectToClipboard feature, for CLIPBOARD.
The comment about worked well before needs some clarification.
To the extent that the shortcut keys are relevant, that lies solely in the
user's ability to customize the program.
I'm not going to carry on a length discussion of that on this report.

No

How can I figure out if this is a bug in Mesa?

Make sure you have completely removed fglrx (there are many guides on
how to do this in Ubuntu just google it) and then try using this ppa
with updated drivers https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881526]

2015-01-20 Thread Alexdeucher
Both fglrx and radeon support dynamic power management so this does not
likely have anything to do with power management. It looks like a plain
old GPU hang. I'd suggest updating your mesa stack in the case of the
open source driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881526]

2015-01-20 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Because this normally happens after first boot, but not in posterior
ones, I greatly suspect this is a hardware bug.

Probably this is happening because of the GPU passing from a cold state
to a warm state too fast, under graphic demanding operations as watching
videos are.

And Windows users won't be experiencing this as the GPU doesn't stay in
a maximum power state all the time.

So this should be a bug in the Linux kernel, Direct Rendering Manager's,
Dinamic Power Management feature.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1413021] [NEW] Pointer disappears when 'Activities' is clicked

2015-01-20 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

After logging in, if I click on either the Activities or the date or the
battery/wireless indicator, the pointer visually goes invisible. I can still
select things (if the 'invisible pointer' points to them), but the pointer
itself is not shown.
When I exit these menus(for example the Activities screen) the pointer
returns.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1413026] Re: thiers a virus and screen freezes and crashes

2015-01-20 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.

2015-01-20 Thread R. Steve McKown
Same results as Vincenzo #60. Xubuntu 14.04.1 amd64 host, freshly
created xubuntu 14.04 (not .1) amd64 guest. Some windows and display
widgets render badly using either cirrus or vga display devices. The
VMVGA display device seems to be working OK, but with little testing so
far.

Note I have a windows 7 KVM VM also on this machine, with similar
resources configured but using standard vga device driver, and it seems
to be fine. The windows VM was created a looong time ago and migrated
forward.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-20 Thread Krzysztof Drewniak
Re: #53, I'm running xmonad (with unity-settings-daemon in the

performance issues began with the upgrade (and seem to apply to any non-
trivial fullscreen OpenGL application), so I assume this is the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1407375] [NEW] Segfault on Install with Radeon + Intel iGPU both enabled

2015-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My system is an Intel i7 4770k on an asus Z87 WS motherboard with an AMD
R9 290X graphics card. With Intel iGPU enabled in the UEFI, the
installer crashes.

I have 4 displays, 3 attached to the R9 290X and one attached to the
onboard graphics.

I hit ctrl+alt+f1 and looked at /var/log/X.org.0 log and it indicated a
Segmentation fault. I was able to continue with the install by
unplugging all monitors but the primary monitor AND disabling the iGPU
in the UEFI. I was somewhat surprised that it was necessary to
completely disable the onboard graphics because in many OEM
configurations onboard and PCIe will be enabled for possible multi-
monitor configurations.

After installing, apt-get update apt-get upgrading the distro, I
installed the proprietary fglrx driver using software center, and that
worked fine.

I re-enabled the iGPU however the system appears to hang hard. On two of
the displays (attached to the R9 290X) I can see the animated boot
screen, but ctrl+alt+f1 does not work, and the caps lock light does not
toggle if I hit capslock. No mouse cursor. I did not try ssh, but the
system did not respond to a 'tap' of the power button to shut it down.

I would be willing to experiment a bit here if someone can point me the
right way. I realize I might have to do some things at the command line,
but I wanted to bring this to your attention because I am not sure
enabling the iGPU should causes the system to become unusable.

I am using the official gnome variant of the 14.10 install USB stick.

I tried both Try Ubuntu and Install Ubuntu from the UEFI boot menu
and both options behave approximately the same way in terms of the
Segfault.
