[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1492170] Re: Screen flicker and resolution problems after hot-plug

2015-09-09 Thread Michael Thayer
I am now no longer seeing the flicker and resolution issues much (and
poking the hardware, e.g. by opening the Display control panel usually
gets rid of it). I have a suspicion there might be hardware issues too.
The mouse cursor issue is still present with kernel 4.2.0-7-generic, and
still not present with the mainline kernel, tested with
4.2.0-040200-generic. However it is very hard to get a graphical log-in
with either of the 4.2 kernels at all - it is shown briefly, then I have
a black screen and can get a VT but usually not an X console. I am
currently using 4.1.6-040106-generic again, which just now is working as
well as Ubuntu 15.04 did.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493793] [NEW] kde Shut down/Restart/Logout buttons stopped working after installation of nvidia-346 package

2015-09-09 Thread João Alberto
Public bug reported:

I have a notebook with a NVIDIA GeForce 840M GPU. The OS is Ubuntu
14.04. Both Unity and kde-plasma-desktop are installed. Everything was
configured and running smoothly while the Nouveau display driver
(xserver-xorg-video-nouveau) was being used, but after installing the
nvidia-346 package (as explained in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia) the Shut
down, Restart and Logout buttons in kde stopped working. Also in kde,
I'm unable to change the driver in the "Software & Updates -> Additional
Drivers" or change the GPU in "NVIDIA X Server Settings -> Prime
Profiles". However, everything works perfectly in Unity.

ps:. Right after loggin in kde, the system strangely seems to freeze for
few seconds (maybe something like 20 seconds), after answering and start
working normally.

The software versions are:
kde-plasma-desktop 5:78ubuntu13
nvidia-346 346.82-0ubuntu0.2

2015-09-09 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493921] [NEW] X server fails to set correct mode on resume from sleep (NVIDIA: Setting a mode on head 0 failed: An invalid mode was requested)

2015-09-09 Thread Pas
Public bug reported:

Using a really picky Dell P2415Q monitor through DP->mDP (displayport ->
mini displayport) cable, nvidia binary driver version 352.30-0ubuntu1.
This is not a laptop, so the Intel integrated VGA is disabled. (No other
cards in sysfs.)

Really nasty bug, as every time all the running applications detect that
the X server went away and exit, logind terminates the session culling
everyone, and so on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-09 Thread jerrylamos
Update complete Wily as of display.

Appearances Background all pictures horizontally hashed, both the ubuntu
supplied ones and my jpg's.

Wallpaper horribly hashed and will not recover even with multiple
wallpaper settings. which used to clear things up until the changes of
last week.

Files Picture viewer looks just fine.

Not only the wallpaper, but the text windows hashed unreadable.

Worst yet.

Earlier Wily much better, 14.04 LTS perfect.

When I plug a Dell U3414W screen into my Dell XPS 13 9343 display port

Lower resolutions correctly work such as:

I also found these messages in the dmesg log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1492840] Re: Softlockup on boot of Kubuntu 14.04-3 Live-ISO

2015-09-09 Thread private_lock
I've tried various others ISO over the last days.

kubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64.iso - blank screen before language chooser,
probably another error
kubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso - works
kubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso - works
kubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso - same error
kubuntu-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso - the ISO from the original error report
kubuntu-14.10-desktop-amd64.iso - same error
kubuntu-15.04-desktop-amd64.iso - new KDE version, language chooser completely
gone and screen turned off
kubuntu-15.10-beta1-desktop-amd64.iso - works again

Total: 5 out of 8 ISO fail on my hardware, though the upgrades worked so
far.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493989] [NEW] After display goes to sleep, sometimes external monitor is black

2015-09-09 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

In a gnome session, my screen locks & turns off after a certain amount
of inactivity (but the system is not in suspend).

When I wake the display back up by moving mouse / hitting a key, it
seems like my external monitor is redetected -- both internal & external
screen blink black as if I had just plugged in my external monitor, and
then _sometimes_ the external monitor stays black (but thinks it is
receiving input). Other times it's fine, but when the issue happens,
the displays control panel still thinks the external screen is
connected, just nothing is visible. Unplugging & replugging the screen
fixes the issue, and it happens maybe 1/2 the time the display locks.
