sometimes it does say its uses manual driver, sometimes it says it used

it says three greyed options (the driver)

also somehow not all my resolutions are supported :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509792] [NEW] only function keys but not the regular keys working, acer aspire U5 620

2015-10-25 Thread Pe
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu on a new Acer aspire u5 620 I found that the
wireless keyboard is not working properly (Keyboard: Acer KBRF96211).
The mouse works just fine and I can use the arrow keys in the grub menu
(so I am sure the usb plug is working). Moreover, I just realized, that
while pressing Fn the function keys are working but not the regular keys
(either with or without pressing the function key)?! I have tried it
with 14.10 15.04 and 15.10.

I disabled the touchscreen in the file 10-evdev.conf to make sure it
does not interfere with the wireless keyboard but nothing changed. When
I plug in a regular usb-keyboard it is recognized immediately and works
fine.

Did anyone experience this before?

Can you think of a workaround to "establish contact" to the other keys
on the keyboard? Or do you see a chance to obtain or adapt specific
drivers? I really like Ubuntu and want to keep using it, any help would
be appreciated

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-25 Thread Luca Finzi Contini
Hi all. I too had the problem, much the same way as I had with 14.04 LTS some
months ago.
This time I followed this post and managed to uninstall fglrx-* packages and
get my system to boot again:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/620869/15-04-installed-fglrx-amd-ati-
drivers-wont-boot

But anyways, I agree with those who said that it's unpleasant to be
faced with the issue of a non-functioning system basically within the
last 3 releases or something. It could be OK for non-LTS releases,
because you know you're about to get the bleeding edge software, but I
hope that would not come again on the next LTS :)

In the meantime, a huge THANKS to all the people involved in the fix.

2015-10-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have an HP computer with integrated graphics Intel G33 / G31 Express
chipset GMA3100 (D VGA connector) with dual boot with ubuntu 15.10, in
which I see strange images, here i upload some images.

I tried to change the resolution (I have a couple of days) but the other
operating system w7 or Ubuntu 14.04 has the same resolution at the same
frequency and looks good.

rare lines and images.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless

2015-10-25 Thread Michael Satke
I could get rid of the problem through upgrading to 15.10 and getting
rid of fglrx - BUT! - I was greeted with a black screen at first My
displays could not be detected. Via ssh I remotely logged in from
another computer and completely removed my ati drivers, removed my
Xorg.conf, and reinstalled Xorg (https://askubuntu.com/questions/68306
/how-do-i-remove-the-proprietary-ati-drivers).

Trying that please be sure you have remote access to your computer or
could find yourself stuck in front of a black screen!

So now I can agree Alberto Salvia Novella. My virtual consoles, my
graphical session, and libreoffice (whose crashes had been the reason
why I had to switch to fglrx) all work fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509135] Re: Discrete Radeon graphics unit won't stay *off*

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
foobar, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To advise, this report is only scoped to how the discrete radeon
graphics won't stay off.

Regarding display glitches, that is already scoped in another one of
your reports >
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1467274

Regarding overheat, as you noted in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1467274/comments/7
it also overheated in Windows, so this is not a software bug at all, but
a hardware design flaw.

Despite this, could you please advise how precisely you were turning off
the discrete card when it did work?

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete

** Description changed:

- Until today I was running Ubuntu 15.04, and finally got to the point
- where I could run my HP computer with the Radeon discrete graphics
- disabled/*turned off* -- even when watching video with the VLC video
- player.
-
- However, after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.10 today, the Radeon discrete
- graphics keeps coming on, even though I'm trying to force it to stay in
- the "PX asic powered off" state.
-
- There are several problems with the Radeon discrete graphics:
- * when it comes on & goes off it glitches the display and the Bluetooth mouse
and glitches the audio
- * it cause this laptop to run 10 degrees F hotter.
-
- How can I disable the discrete Radeon graphics unit so that it *stays
- powered off* ?
-
- I have already registered several bugs wrt to this problem:
- * Bug 1466934
- * Bug 1467274
- * Bug 1466950
-
- Bottom line: I want to *keep the Radeon discrete graphics unit turned
- off*, and do not wish to use this unit for any "hardware decoding",
- "hardware rendering", or *anything*.
-
- My AMD 3-core CPU is powerful enough to do *software rendering* for
- anything I want to do, so I don't really need or want the discrete
- Radeon graphics running on this computer. (I have other computers
- available should I need HW encoding/decoding/rendering assist.)
+ After upgrading from Ubuntu 15.04 to 15.10, the AMD discrete card keeps
+ coming on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509160] Re: my computer is not working properly

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Heath Lowery, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5GCMX1333/HelpDesk_Download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(0413). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509917] [NEW] FGLRX package cant be installed and run correctly on 15.10 UPGRADE

2015-10-25 Thread Mikael Thurberg
Public bug reported:

Hi there!

I cant get my graphics to work properly.. I have an AMD radeon HD 6450
card, I changed the display drivers via

system settings -> programs & updates -> additional drivers

to fglrx there (switching from the default xserver-xorg-video-ati), that
worked.

But when I did upgrade the distribution from 15.04 to 15.10, it just
"hanged" when loading ubuntu.. it never got into xserver.. managed to
get around that by connectin an old monitor via vga to my mobo directly,
then it worked somehow by displaying the picture on my main screen via
hdmi via amd hd 6450..

Have tried to install fglrx back and forth trying to get it to work, but
it does not seem to work..

I did get this message when filing the bug:

"Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware
rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D
graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem
you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question
may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system."

What is even more disturbing is that I cant switch back to
xserver-xorg-video-ati eighter and run that driver via the "additional drivers"
settings dialogue.

Dont know if I should file that into a separate bug but thought it maybe
helps reporting that.

Dont know how to get fglrx to work actually.. also the screen is reporting just
a single resolution that is very low that I also even cant change..

Thanks for reading.
Have a nice day!

/Micke

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1508021] Re: graphics

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Matthew HIcks, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/K53SD/HelpDesk_Download/ an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (208). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509585] Re: system hang

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Yuan Song, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is manually attached.

First, please update your buggy and outdated BIOS to the latest available from
the vendor (2.22):
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x61

If this is still reproducible, then please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. Execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y
dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in
/etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal,
navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By
default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker
infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker .

However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted
to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one
would need to open the following file via a terminal:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and file the crash report via:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

If you do open this report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

However, I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will
deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your
crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1237904] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2015-10-25 Thread Tim
** Description changed:

- Freshly booted and logged in, update-notifier signalled a problem, and
- when I clicked "report" caused this cascade of errors.
+ [Impact]
+ This crash is ranking #2 on errors.u.c[1], it is caused by a recursive call
to xf86CloseConsole() after a failed VT switch. Since it is happening on
shutdown, its not causing any real issues with the user session, however it is
spamming the users (and errors.u.c) with crash logs.

+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very Low, its an upstream patch, that just changes the error logging, so that
the a warning is logged rather than crashing the server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1508901] Re: Resolution Dysplay

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gilberto, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/precision-t3400/drivers an update to your computer's
buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A14). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-25 Thread Paolo
Same problem here. I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 with 4.2.0-16-generic kernel
on a Lenovo z50 (AMD). This laptop comes whit an AMD FX-7500 core and a
AMD R7-M260DX graphic card. When installing fglrx-updates I could only
obtain a black screen. I had to enter a root shell in recovery mode and
uninstall the driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314587]

2015-10-25 Thread Ilia Mirkin
There is no mention of nouveau anywhere in here, indications of the
other bug are that nouveau vs nvidia doesn't matter, and I see no
indication of DRI_PRIME ever getting set. I believe this is
miscategorized, it's unclear to me why this is in the fd.o bugtracker at
all, sounds like some ubuntu thing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509907] [NEW] FTBFS Due to typo in xmir.patch

2015-10-25 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Xorg is FTBFS, atleast locally under sbuild (oddly the archive builder
did build ok when it was uploaded)

There is a typo in xmir.patch, PKG_CHECK_MODULES wants .pc file names,
not debian package names.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507484] Re: Window Graphics Corrupted for Skype

2015-10-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
vilbara, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/latitude-e7240-ultrabook/drivers/advanced an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A15). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-25 Thread Hemal
I am new here so just want to know this.

On this bug report, at top , it is stated that 'Fix Released'. But I
cant find any fixed deb files.

I tried all deb files but was not working so I tried as per comment #48
and its working now.

But what does that 'Fix Released' sign means at top. And how can i find
those fixed files.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-25 Thread Hemal
I can confirm that, the .deb files in comment #48 are working fine with
me on dual monitor.

I am using Ubuntu 15.10, Kernel 4.2, AMD HD7770 and above said FGLRX
files.

This might be the temporary solution.

Please be alerted about official patch release.

@Serge Thanks !
gcc 4.9 does work on my pc

I am too lazy to patch, just soft linking gcc to 4.9

sudo ln -sf /usr/bin/gcc-4.9 /usr/bin/gcc
sudo /etc/kernel/prerm.d/dkms 4.2.0-16-generic
sudo /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 4.2.0-16-generic

and it works

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-25 Thread Daniel Svetlik
I am using xubuntu, and it requires 3 clicks from the release
announcement to find any reference to this issue. You have to go to:

http://xubuntu.org/news/xubuntu-15-10-release/ then click to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/FinalRelease/Xubuntu and then click to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WilyWerewolf/ReleaseNotes#Known_issues

At least now I know to go back to open source drivers fully before
upgrading in the future. Thanks to everyone here for the helpful info.

2015-10-25 Thread Fabian Thoma
Public bug reported:

The included config makes all devices use libinput, even device types
that libinput does not yet support, namely tablets / wacom devices.
According to the libinput developers these should be ignored for now at
the X level and fall back to the proper X input drivers.

Installed Version: xserver-xorg-input-libinput 0.14.0-1

Ubuntu Version: 15.10 Wily 64bit

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509866] [NEW] Left Mouse Click NOT working in Linux

2015-10-25 Thread Ryan
Public bug reported:

I have noted this problem was first reported in '2009 ( Google search).
The problem is definitely NOT a hardware problem, people with various
hardware configurations encounter this bug.

It does not just affect Ubuntu, it also affects Debian, Linux Mint,
Puppy, along with some Redhat distros Fedora, and ArchLinux.

I personally noticed the problem when I upgraded from ubuntu10.10 to
11.04. All versions prior to 11.04 worked great out of the box.

When I could not find a fix for the bug in Ubuntu, I deleted Ubuntu,
then installed Debian 6 (Squeez), which worked right out of the box.
When I upgraded to Debian 6 (Wheezy), the bug resurfaced. I deleted
Debian 6, and tried Puppy Linux with the SAME result, deleted Puppy, and
tried LinuxMint Mate17.1 which had the SAME bug, I deleted LinuxMint,
and burned a live disc of Debian 8 (Jessie) the SAME bug resurfaced
while running from the DVD.

It does not seem to be a matter of what desk top environment is being
used ie.: Gnome 3, Unity, LXDE, Xfce, or Kde.

It did not seem as prevalent in Gnome 2.30.

Right now I am running Kubuntu 14.04 it has the SAME BUG, but only appears when
I try to use Fire Fox on youtube with a full screen video.
I have tried these installs on two different systems:

Mobo: Asus M3A78-CM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled)
Video: ATI Readon HD 5000 series
Mouse: I have logitech optical wired BJ58, Gearhead optical wired OM3400U ,
Microsoft Sculp model 1560 wireless, logitech optical wireless mouse M705

Mobo: Asus M2NBP-VM CSM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled)
Video: ATI Readon HD 4000 series.
Mouse: same as listed above

This BUG affect what seems like ALL .deb bases
