Same problems for weeks. Opening video files (vlan). Using Firefox. Opening or closing folders via SMB to an external NAS. And other activities which i do not remember, sorry. First i would get the login screen again after 10-120 seconds. Then the crash report would tell me that it was xorg.

After a few days of this, added the xorg-edgers PPA, upgraded to the newer packages, and I haven't had a single X server crash since. I also installed the 4.4.0-040400rc4-generic kernel available here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4-rc4-wily/ but I'm not sure if that's required
