[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531439] [NEW] Freeze after kernel upgrade to 4.0.23
Public bug reported: After the recent kernel upgrade 2.4.0-23 the computer freezes (see the screenshot) and I'm not able to login neither into a graphic mode nor the text console. When I try previous kernel 4.2.0-22 the result is the same even if it worked before. When I go to the recovery mode (Grub menu > Advanced options > Linux 4.2.0-23-generic (recovery mode)) and just select "Resume normal boot" it boots as normal and I can login into KDE. But I guess it is in some non accelerated graphics mode. * Kubuntu 15.10, uname: 4.2.0-23-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Sun Dec 27 17:47:31 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. * AMD Radeon R5 M255, using fglrx-updates ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-23.28-generic 4.2.6 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-23-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Wed Jan 6 09:59:24 2016 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: wily DistroVariant: kubuntu DkmsStatus: fglrx-updates-core, 15.201, 4.2.0-19-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx-updates-core, 15.201, 4.2.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx-updates-core, 15.201, 4.2.0-22-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx-updates-core, 15.201, 4.2.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: I just need to know a workaround GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a16] (rev 0b) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:2248] Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:224a] InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-10-23 (74 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Release amd64 (20151021) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP ProBook 450 G2 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-23-generic root=UUID=c9e0c6ee-c8a4-4d1a-a46e-a3b79c38f774 ro recovery nomodeset Renderer: Software SourcePackage: xorg UdevLog: Error: [Errno 2] Adresář nebo soubor neexistuje: '/var/log/udev' UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/20/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: M74 Ver. 01.05 dmi.board.name: 2248 dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.board.version: KBC Version 67.22 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrM74Ver.01.05:bd09/20/2014:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPProBook450G2:pvrA3008CD10003:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn2248:rvrKBCVersion67.22:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct10:cvr: dmi.product.name: HP ProBook 450 G2 dmi.product.version: A3008CD10003 dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard version.compiz: compiz N/A version.fglrx-installer: fglrx-installer N/A version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.64-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0+git20150819-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20150808-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu3 xserver.bootTime: Wed Jan 6 09:49:37 2016 xserver.configfile: default xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug kubuntu wily ** Attachment added: "screenshot: this is on screen when the computer freezes" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531439/+attachment/4544821/+files/screenshot-stuck-after-kernel-upgrade.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531439 Title: Freeze after kernel upgrade to 4.0.23 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1531439/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531422] [NEW] i915 underrun errors causing screen blanking
Public bug reported: I am having issues with my displays blanking out and coming back after 2 seconds, quite often.. sometimes a few times in 10 seconds sometimes once a minute. I only just started using the Intel graphics today, instead of previously using a radeon card. My setup is 1xDVI + 1x Displayport, with a powered mulitlink adaptor to then connect 2 displays. Only the displayport displays blank out. Similar errors to reported in #1451632 -- I am running xenial up to date as of today, 4.3.0-5-generic. These errors keep appearing, but lots of other stuff is also appearing. A bunch more occurred since I ran ubuntu-bug to generate all the xorg data, so i'll attach an extra dmesg log. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1456326] Re: XServer eats up 100% cpu and is very slow on specific tasks with xfce desktop
I have same behaviour on notebook with AMD A4-5000 APU with embedded [AMD/ATI] Kabini [Radeon HD 8330]. When I press "Log Out ..." button or make screenshot - Xorg starts eating 100% of one CPU core for long time. Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-F7 pop ups logout selector window immediately. Changing driver to proprietary fglrx is helped too. I have tried to install 4.2 kernel with "apt-get install linux-generic-lts-wily", but it does not helped. $ uname -a Linux hp17 4.2.0-23-generic #28~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 31 13:40:42 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456326 Title: XServer eats up 100% cpu and is very slow on specific tasks with xfce desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1456326/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
