I add “nomodeset” in kernel command line of grub.cfg but I still see
“The system is running in low-graphics mode”.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625350] Re: High CPU usage of /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg

The errors logged:

so be sure to only use the intel driver from the (x)ubuntu archive.

Purge xserver-xorg-video-intel (sudo apt-get purge )
then reinstall it.
Of course if some non trusted packages has also been installed, then goto
ubuntu archive.

If the problem still persist after the above tweaks done, then check
with a previous kernel. And the irq bios settings needs indeed to be
checked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625350] [NEW] High CPU usage of /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg

2016-09-19 Thread justfortherec
Public bug reported:

My laptop is running Xubuntu 16.04 and recently (don't know when
exactly) started showing very sluggish display and input behavior:

 - Typed input lags several characters behind.
 - Mouse input is slow (e.g. when drag and dropping elements)
 - /user/lib/xorg/Xorg uses high percantage of CPU ressources (oftentimes 100%)

Any help is appreciated.

It turns out that simply unchecking the VLC option "Accelerated video

Maybe this is just a small VLC bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625154] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9343] Sceen periodically scrambles then returns to normal

2016-09-19 Thread Seth Forshee
Things I've tested which haven't made a difference:

* Copy /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

* Running with the drm-intel-next kernel

Also verified that xenial still doesn't exhibit any issues by booting a
live image, so it isn't an hw issue.

Thanks.

After I uninstalled the 16.04 nvidia-340 package, rebooted (so using
Nouveau), then installed the nvidia-340_340.96-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625154] [NEW] [Dell XPS 13 9343] Sceen periodically scrambles then returns to normal

2016-09-19 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to yakkety on this machine I see frequent instances of
the screen "scrambling," for lack of a better work. What I mean is that
for a split second things appear at the wrong location on the screeen,
as though the video has lost sync temporarily. Then it returns to
normal. It happens frequently but not on a regular interval - I'd
estimate anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds between occurrences in
general.

I'm running a 4.8 kernel from the canonical-kernel-team ppa right now,
but I don't think this is a kernel problem, or at least not wholly a
kernel problem, because it also happens with 4.4 kernels (though it
seems less frequent with 4.4). This didn't happen at all with xenial.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625119] [NEW] Nvidia settings can't be saved

2016-09-19 Thread name
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 suggest proprietary Nvidia drivers when a Nvidia GPU is
present. The settings in the nvidia-settings tool cannot be saved,
however, without starting the tool as root and doing all kinds of
workarounds which is impossible to do for the average user.

Do you really expect users to reconfigure their displays after every
login?

Unless you can fix this, the Nvidia driver recommendation should simply
be removed. Delivering such a horrible experience to millions of users
seems like a bad joke and the persons responsible should feel really bad
about this.

Ubuntu has no future anywhere with such usability issues.
