[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690570] [NEW] dmesg CIFS VFS: src file seems to be from a different filesystem type for every file i copy/move to shared folder

2017-05-13 Thread dan
Public bug reported:

#BASIC SETUP
-server side: ext4 / lubuntu 14.04.5 / 4.4.0-72-generic #93~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP
.. i686 / samba 4.3.11
-client side: ext4 / lubuntu 14.04.5 / 4.4.0-75-generic #96~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP
x86_64 / mount.cifs 6.0
-both server and client are up-to-date
-mount line: mount.cifs //ip/share /mountpoint -o
username=user,password=pass,uid=buntu,gid=buntu

#ANTERIOR WORKINGS PRIOR TO UPGRADES
-the server worked fine prior to upgrading
-the server had about 6 months prior to last upgrade (3 days ago)
-the client had about 1 month prior to last upgrade (3 days ago)

#THE PROBLEM
-the "CIFS VFS: src file seems to be from a different filesystem type" appears
inside dmesg for every file copy/move to server
-the problem does not appear on connect with pcmanfm like smb://ip/share into
the address bar
-the problem does not appear on create, move, copy files through the mount
straight on server

#OTHER
-ive tested within virtualbox lubuntu 64 14.04.5 clean no upgrades apt-get
install samba cifs-utils with the same problem
-the copied/moved files seem do be fine.. checksum tested

#EXPECTED RESULT
-no error messages(ive read about lost files)
-a clean workaround if possible(trough mount.cifs or samba options)

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => samba (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690520] Re: Scaling resets from 1.5 to 1 after screen lock / unlock

2017-05-13 Thread Jesper de Jong
It doesn't have anything to do with the lock screen; if I go to System
Settings / Brightness & Lock and set Lock to OFF, then wait 5 minutes
for the screen to turn off, then press a key to wake it up again, then
the scaling is also reset to 1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690520] [NEW] Scaling resets from 1.5 to 1 after screen lock / unlock

2017-05-13 Thread Jesper de Jong
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 17.04, I have a 4K (3840x2160) monitor connected to my computer.

I have set the scaling to 1.5 (System Settings / Displays / Scale for
menu and title bars).

When I walk away from the computer, after a while the screen is locked.
When I unlock it by entering my password, the scaling is reset to 1 and
the Ubuntu menu bar at the top of the screen, the launcher and windows
are all small.

I have to go back to System Settings / Displays and set it back to 1.5.

Locking / unlocking the desktop should not affect the scaling factor
setting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690512] [NEW] shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics

2017-05-13 Thread Thiru
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure where to report this under, so please bear with me.
Reporting this bug using ubuntu-bug just crashes my system if im using
intel graphics, I had to switch to nvidia graphics just to file this bug
report so the automatically attached log files may not be a good
representation of the problem.

I've attached the syslog and kern.log files below.

PROBLEM:

When using intel graphics:

Whenever I close the laptop lid or restart / shutdown using GUI or
terminal commands, it goes into a black screen with a single "_" at the
top left corner, and hangs. Only long-pressing (hard reset) the power
button would shut down the computer.

However, when I use sudo prime-select nvidia to switch over to nvidia,
everything works fine.log

I have tried many things, and all do not work. I have attached the logs
for /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log below.

Attempts so far:

1)Tried installing new intel drivers from Updated kernel to 4.8 now
missing firmware warnings --> Did not work. Issue persists

2) Tried upgrading kernel from 4.8 to 4.10.15 --> Did not work. Problem
got worse. Instead of the normal login screen, it gives a terminal login
screen and hangs.

3) Tried the fix to nvidia-prime https://askubuntu.com/a/884506/547039,
but both the poweron.sh and poweroff.sh script hangs my laptop instead.

4) Tried sudo swapoff -a && systemctl poweroff as a workaround, no
avail.

5) Tried changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" Does not work
either.

Additional note:
'sudo lshw -C display' on intel graphics outputs PCI(sysfs) then laptop freezes.

LOG FILES:
/var/log/syslog

/var/log/kern.log

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690443] Re: Trackpoint middle button scroll is not working after upgrading to 17.04

2017-05-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ibrahim Awwal:
1) To clarify, which prior Ubuntu version(s) was this functionality working in?
2) Referencing
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440s_ug_en.pdf you
had the BIOS set to TrackPoint mode (not Classic TrackPoint mode) both in the
prior release(s) where this was working, and in 17.04?
3) Were you using libinput in the prior release(s) where this was working?
4) If you uninstall libinput, would this functionality be restored?
5) Could you please advise which 4.10 kernel specifically was causing system
hangs (ex. 4.10.0-19.21)?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1690443] Re: Trackpoint middle button scroll is not working after upgrading to 17.04

2017-05-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- This bug happened after upgrading to 17.04. I'm using libinput and not
- evdev. I do see that in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ there are evdev
- config files, but then the libinput file should be loaded after
- (prefixed with 40- instead of 10-).
+ After upgrading to 17.04, when I hold the dotted scrolling bar on the
+ trackpad and push the pointing stick, it doesn't scroll anymore. I'm

+ /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ there are evdev config files, but then the
+ libinput file should be loaded after (prefixed with 40- instead of 10-).

- WORKAROUND: Executing the below makes the scrolling work, but then it breaks
the clickpad's touch rejection for the button areas:
+ WORKAROUND: Executing the below makes the scrolling work, but then it breaks
the trackpad's touch rejection for the button areas:
sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

One potential issue is that I'm using Kernel 4.8 instead of 4.10 which
was the 16.10 version, since for some reason on 4.10 I used to get
  periodic full system hangs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1683184] Re: GPU problems on HP 15-ba009ng

2017-05-13 Thread Craig Stein
Ok I tried two kernel packages both with and without nomodeset enabled
in the grub file, first tried the v4.11 image and specifically file
named linux-
image-4.11.0-041100-generic_4.11.0-041100.201705041534_amd64.deb. This
gave me errors similar to the above including multiple "AMD-Vi:
Completion-Wait loop timed out" and a bunch of disk checks that kept
failing. I then uninstalled the above package and tried a kernel image
from drm-next and specifically package "linux-
image-4.11.0-996-generic_4.11.0-996.201705122201_amd64.deb". Without
nomodeset enabled in the grub config it provided the same errors as
above. For both packages I simply used the command sudo dpkg -i
packagename.deb. And to uninstall the first kernel I used sudo apt-get
purge linux-image.
