I installed 'linux-generic-hwe-16.04', as suggested, but there's no
change. Perhaps because the radeon.modeset=0 is still in my system - but
I can't find where. My boot sequence no longer shows radeon.modeset=0,
but it came up when I ran dmesg | egrep | 'drm|radeon'. I've included
both outputs

I have tested the version 304.135-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 and the DKMS package
successfully builds and loads on kernels 4.13, which was the issue
reported in this bug.
I also have run the ADT tests for the following kernels to ensure
there's no regressions:
- linux-generic 4.4
- linux-hwe 4.10

Another problem occurred : serious inconsistencies in the i-node table
causing a crash and a grub-rescue error. Eventually I reverted to ISO
release. Maybe later, I'll try the release 16.04.4...
