[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()
Just tidying up this bug... Although this is the top Xwayland crash, I'm now thinking we need to lower its priority. The reason is that this crash is only a side-effect of the gnome-shell process going away and not really a bug in Xwayland. One could argue that Xwayland still shouldn't crash in that case, and should survive (or exit) more cleanly. But still, not really a bug in Xwayland itself. We need to focus on fixing the gnome-shell crashes more than this one, and then this one will happen much less. ** Package changed: mutter (Fedora) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Fix Committed => New ** Changed in: ubuntu Remote watch: Red Hat Bugzilla #1500325 => None ** No longer affects: ubuntu ** No longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu) ** Bug watch removed: Red Hat Bugzilla #1500325 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1500325 ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: High => Medium ** Description changed: https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/c27f5c4fef272640ec1027318712f0434c7c8857 --- - no idea how to reproduce + Xwayland crashes when gnome-shell goes away. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display
I think there is something wrong with gdm3/wayland/NVIDIA proprietary driver. If I config gdm3 as default display manager, when rebooted, I have a black screen but I'm able to switch to other tty by press crtl-alt-f2 to f7. Then I edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf uncomment line 7th to WaylandEnable=false then rebooted, then I have system hange after reboot :(. It seems that the OS is stuck in gdm3 service. I tried to change/regenerate/delete xorg.conf but it simply doesn't work. So I think xorg.conf is not the root cause for me. If I uninstall all nvidia stubs and install nouveau xorg driver, the system is able to boot to graphic shell with gdm3 as a display manager. Unfortunately, the nouveau driver does not support CUDA computing framework and the performance of this driver is very poor when compare to the binary one. If I config to use lightdm as default DM, it works with NVIDIA binary driver, but this is not what I expected. I expect the system have to work with gdm3, ubuntu-xorg session and NVIDIA proprietary driver. I have an app that need xorg session and CUDA, so I must install NVIDIA binary driver. PS: If you are able to boot to graphic mode but stuck with login loop, you could try to delete the ~/.Xauthority file then reboot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1731911] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait()
I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 beta last Tuesday. When I power on my computer, the screen blinks 50-53 times over the span of 2-1/2 minutes (this is perfectly reproducible) and then for the rest of the session, everything works flawlessly. After LinuxFest Northwest, I was told to do an apt dist-upgrade and that did not clear the problem. I have two video cards: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1) I'm not sure what other information would be helpful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731911 Title: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_read_events() from ospoll_wait() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1731911/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768128] Re: Regression: monitor connected via motherboard GPU is not initialized, but one connected to Nvidia is
** Description changed: Back when I was using 17.10, I could keep my monitor plugged into the HDMI port of my motherboard (AsRock Z77 Pro4-M) which is set in the BIOS as the primary boot card and I could completely boot my system all the way through to Xorg with everything working fine. Even Steam games worked at performance that assures me that my Nvidia 1060 was being used - instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.10. + instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.04. TTY works fine on motherboard GPU, I can see boot log messages but once I reach lightdm starting (I also tried switching to gdm3), nothing appears on the port. When I then plug my monitor into Nvidia GPU, it works though. Even after logging in to my xfce4 session, I still don't have my monitor initialized when plugged into motherboard GPU. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] Re: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics
Oh, I see. X starting in low resolution mode is due to your kernel option 'nomodeset'. So don't use that. It's behaving correctly in falling back to 1024x768. Please remove 'nomodeset', reboot and try logging in a few times. You may be experiencing bug 1766137. Otherwise, please also log into the machine remotely via ssh (install 'openssh-server') and watch the problem as it happens by running: journalctl -f -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767993 Title: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1767993/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768169] [NEW] touchscreen doesn't work properly after stylus detection
Public bug reported: I have a HP Pavilion x360 convertible 15 br0xx. This laptop has a multitouch touchscreen and an active pen/stylus. On ubuntu 16.04, the touchscreen used with fingers and the pen/stylus work properly. The touchscreen was identified as «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8» as slave pointer and the pen as «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen» as slave pointer too. But, on ubuntu 18.04 bionic with gnome shell, the pen/stylus is identified «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen» as slave keyboard instead as slave pointer. Touchscreen work well until pen/stylus is used. At this point, a new device «ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen Pen (0)» is enabled. The touchscreen stops working and the pen/styles works but with some issues. ~$ xinput --list ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=15 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 id=10 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen Pen (0) id=18 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP Wide Vision HD Camera: HP Wi id=9[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Intel Virtual Button driver id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Intel Virtual Button driver id=13 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=14 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP WMI hotkeysid=16 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP Wireless hotkeys id=17 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ ELAN0732:00 04F3:24B8 Pen id=11 [slave keyboard (3)] After disable devices id=11 and id=18, touchscreen recovers its multitouch feature. There is no combination enabling/disabling ids 10, 11 and 18, to get multitouch and pen working together. On Wayland session, I get the same behavior. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768128] [NEW] Regression: monitor connected via motherboard GPU is not initialized, but one connected to Nvidia is
Public bug reported: Back when I was using 17.10, I could keep my monitor plugged into the HDMI port of my motherboard (AsRock Z77 Pro4-M) which is set in the BIOS as the primary boot card and I could completely boot my system all the way through to Xorg with everything working fine. Even Steam games worked at performance that assures me that my Nvidia 1060 was being used instead of the GPU built into my motherboard. Then I upgraded to 18.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761261] Re: nouveau/nvidia drivers do not work with display in Bionic on Asus GL703VD Laptop
I tried testing with the latest RC build of the 4.17 kernel from kernel.org (Torvald's GIT) and built the kernel following the instructions here [1]. After installing the kernel and headers, it looks like it regressed and the display did not work (backlight) and I could not switch terminals. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display
so, I downloaded various versions of the Linux drivers directly from Nvidia.com website. Went thru the installation process - each time starting over from scratch, formatting and reinstalling Ubuntu 18.04 so I would have a "blank canvas" to work with. This process failed too. My thinking was that perhaps the Nvidia drivers may/may not contain a component that would not break the laptop. But this was a futile effort. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1
I noticed another issue recently: when the device displays woke up after a period of inactivity, the picture of the external (!) display was stretched vertically by a factor of 2, with the bottom half missing. I took a screenshot, but that looked OK and didn’t reflect what I actually saw. Also, with the original issue, I tried switching to a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back to the GUI (Ctrl+Alt+F7), but the internal display remained black and came back to life long after the main one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] [NEW] X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics
Public bug reported: Hi, I just installed a fresh 18.04 on an ASRock beebox N3150 machine. The regular ubuntu desktop installer hanged after entering X11 mode, machine froze. I then used Lubuntu alternate installer with the console based installation, which worked without any problem. But after rebooting the system again hung after the graphical login prompt. I then changed the boot options in /etc/default/grub to give the kernel the options nosplash nomodeset and to leave the system in console mode (I had similar experiences with former ubuntu versions on that machine where X11 did not start when the mode had been set by console.) Now X11 works, but comes up in vesa mode (1024x768) only. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767991] [NEW] unable to update due to unmet dependencies
Public bug reported: After installing Ubuntu onto my Hp laptop there's a red dot, on the the right-hand top bar, with a white dash stating: "An error has occurred. Pleas run Package Manager from the right click menu or run apt-get in a terminal to see what's wrong. The error message was: 'Error: BrokenCount>0'. This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies." - after trying to run Package Manager the manager is not installed and won't install. - after running 'apt-get' and following instructions there the instructed commands weren't recognised. - after searching Ubuntu forums for the issue I couldn't get any of them to work either. Help will be greatly appreciated in this matter.
